브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= 넥슨이 27일 ‘메이플스토리’ 불법 사설서버 관련한 수사 현황을 공개하며, 강경한 법적 대응을 예고했다.
넥슨에 따르면 최근 넥슨은 충북경찰청 사이버범죄수사대와 공조해 익스트림, 진, 로얄메이플 등 최대 규모의 ‘메이플스토리’ 불법 사설서버들을 조직적으로 운영해온 주범들 중 2인을 저작권법 및 게임산업법 위반으로 검거해 구속 송치했다. 1인은 해외 도피 상태로 추적 및 검거를 위해 인터폴 수배 조치를 내렸다.
현재 사설서버 로얄메이플은 이들 외 주범(들)에 의해 운영되는 상황으로, 향후 수사가 지속될 예정이다.
또한, 사설서버 운영에 가담한 호스팅 업체 직원, 디자이너, 프로그래머 등 4인 역시 저작권법 및 게임산업법 위반 방조죄로 검거해 송치됐다.
향후 넥슨은 민·형사상 법적 대응을 진행해 처벌과 함께 이들이 취한 부당이익 전액을 추징하고 손해배상을 청구할 계획이다.
