[브레이크뉴스경기남부=용인 이현준기자] 용인특례시가 ‘조아용’ 쌀 가공품 개발 사업에 국비 5억원을 확보했다.
시는 농촌진흥청의 ‘2025년 특산자원 융복합 기술지원’ 공모에 선정돼 시민 눈높이에 맞는 맞춤형 쌀 가공 상품으로 농가의 새로운 부가가치를 창출하고 시 관광상품으로도 활용하기 위해 지난 5월부터 시 캐릭터인 조아용과 시 대표 농산물 브랜드인 백옥쌀을 접목한 빵을 개발 중이다.
시는 이번 공모 선정으로 확보한 5억원과 시비 5억원을 투입해 2026년 말까지 백옥쌀과 시 특산물인 청경채를 활용한 쌀과자, 쌀 아이스크림 등 다양한 가공품을 만들어 상품화할 방침이다.
시는 이를 통해 농업의 역할이 농산물 생산에 그치지 않고 식품 가공, 유통·판매·관광 산업 활성화까지 이어지도록 해 농가 소득 안정은 물론 지역 발전까지 이어지도록 한다는 목표를 세웠다.
이상일 시장은 “백옥쌀을 활용한 다양한 가공품을 개발해 소비자에게 선보인다면 쌀 소비 촉진과 지역 특화 상품을 통한 시 브랜딩 강화 등의 시너지 효과가 나올 것”이라며 “용인의 정체성을 담은 지역 특화 상품을 개발하는 데 주력해 시민들이 만족할 수 있는 제품을 선보이도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
농촌진흥청은 지역 특화작목이나 연구개발 기술, 농업·농촌 자원을 연계한 융복합 기술을 지원해 지역의 특성에 맞는 차별화된 특산품을 개발하도록 매년 전국의 농업기술센터를 대상으로 공모사업을 하고 있다.
시는 서류 심사 통과 후 지난달 말 ‘백옥쌀 활용 조아용 푸드 클러스터 컨소시엄 구축’을 주제로 발표한 끝에 최종 10개 시군 가운데 2위에 올랐다.
