최근 통계청이 발표한 출생아 수 통계에 따르면 2023년 전국에서 태어난 출생아는 23만28명으로, 5년 전인 2018년보다 9만6794명 줄어들었다.
같은 기간 17개 모든 광역자치단체에서도 출생아 수가 감소했다. 경기도의 경우 1만9358명 줄어들어 감소 폭이 가장 컸으며, 서울특별시가 1만8618명으로 그 뒤를 이어 인구에 비례해 출생아 수가 줄어든 양상을 보였다.
