브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 4·2 재보궐선거 결과, 국민의힘이 텃밭으로 꼽히는 경남 거제시장과 충청권인 충남 아산시장 등까지 내주면서 참패라는 성적표를 받았다.
4·2 재보선의 핵심인 기초단체장 5곳 가운데 국민의힘이 1곳, 민주당이 3곳, 조국혁신당이 1곳에서 승리를 거뒀다. 2022년 지방선거에서 국민의힘 후보들이 당선됐던 충남 아산시장, 경남 거제시장에서 민주당 후보들이 당선됐다.
거제시장 재선거에서는 민주당 변광용 후보가 당선됐다. 변 후보는 56.7%의 득표율을 기록해 국민의힘 박환기 후보(38.1%)를 20%포인트 가까이 따돌렸다.
충남 아산시장 재선거는 민주당 오세현 후보가 국민의힘 전만권 후보를 가볍게 제치고 당선됐다.
경북 김천시장 선거에서 국민의힘 배낙호 후보가 무소속 이창재 후보를 제치고 당선되며 겨우 1석을 유지할 수 있었다.
관심을 끈 부산시 교육감 선거에서도 진보 진영 후보가 유권자의 선택을 받았다. 이번 재선거에 진보 진영 단일 후보로 출마한 김석준 후보가 보수 진영의 정승윤, 최윤홍 후보를 누르고 당선됐다.
권영세 비상대책위원장은 이날 오전 국회에서 열린 비상대책회의에서 "어제 전국 23개 지역에서 재보선이 치러졌다. 선거 결과를 무겁게 받아들인다"며 "국민 목소리에 더 세심하게 귀를 기울이고 더 강력하게 변화와 혁신을 하며 국민 마음을 얻을 때까지 모든 노력을 멈추지 않겠다"고 말했다.

People Power Party's 4/2 by-election crushing defeat... Kwon Young-se: "I take the results seriously"
As a result of the 4/2 by-election, the People Power Party received a crushing defeat, losing its strongholds in Geoje, Gyeongnam, and Asan, Chungnam, Chungcheong Province.
Out of the 5 key local government positions in the 4/2 by-election, the People Power Party won 1, the Democratic Party won 3, and the Fatherland Innovation Party won 1. In the 2022 local elections, where People Power Party candidates were elected, Democratic Party candidates were elected in Asan, Chungnam, and Geoje, Gyeongnam.
In the Geoje mayoral by-election, Democratic Party candidate Byeon Gwang-yong was elected. Candidate Byeon recorded a voter turnout of 56.7%, beating out Park Hwan-ki (38.1%) of the People Power Party by nearly 20 percentage points.
In the Asan mayoral by-election in South Chungcheong Province, Democratic Party candidate Oh Se-hyun easily defeated People Power Party candidate Jeon Man-kwon and won.
In the Gimcheon mayoral by-election in North Gyeongsang Province, People Power Party candidate Bae Nak-ho defeated independent candidate Lee Chang-jae and barely managed to maintain one seat.
In the Busan superintendent of education election that attracted much attention, progressive candidates were chosen by voters. Candidate Kim Seok-jun, who ran as the sole progressive candidate in this by-election, defeated conservative candidates Jeong Seung-yoon and Choi Yoon-hong and won.
At an emergency response meeting held at the National Assembly this morning, Emergency Response Committee Chairman Kwon Young-se said, “Yesterday, by-elections were held in 23 regions across the country.
