[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시가 호탄동 일대 상습 교통정체 구간에 대한 본격적인 개선에 나선다.
2일 시는 신진주역세권 인근 공동주택 입주 증가로 통행량이 급증하면서 극심한 혼잡을 겪고 있는 방아교차로와 화물차 공영차고지 주변 교차로를 대상으로 정비사업을 추진 중이라고 밝혔다.
이날 조규일 진주시장은 해당 사업 예정지를 직접 방문해 현장을 점검하고, 주민들에게 사업계획을 설명하는 자리를 가졌다.
방아교차로는 (구)국도 2호선과 연결되는 주요 교통 요충지로, 현재 편도 2차로에서 3차로로 확장되며 좌·우회전 전용 차로가 신설되면 시는 신호 대기 차량으로 인한 병목현상이 완화될 것으로 전망했다.
또 시는 화물차 공영차고지 주변 교차로에는 교통섬을 설치하고 차로를 정비해, 역세권에서 충무공동(문산) 방면으로 향하는 우회전 전용 차로를 분리함으로써 차량 흐름을 원활히 할 계획이다.
진주시는 이번 사업을 위해 방아교차로 개선에 9억원, 공영차고지 주변 교차로 정비에 5억원의 예산을 올해 제1회 추가경정예산을 통해 확보해 지역 주민들의 통행 편의를 위해 최선을 다한다는 방침이다.
