【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포스코가 유럽 최대 시스템 키친 제조업체인 프랑케(Franke)와 협력해 고객 맞춤형 ‘프리미엄 스테인리스 싱크’ 제품을 새롭게 선보였다. 이 제품은 포스코의 친환경 기술력이 집약된 스테인리스 소재로 제작되었으며, 글로벌 탄소 규제에 대응하고자 고안된 고부가가치 제품이다.

포스코는 이번 제품에 대해 스크랩 사용 비율을 90% 이상으로 높이고, 태양광 등 재생에너지를 활용한 자가발전을 통해 생산 과정의 탄소 배출량을 대폭 줄였다고 설명했다. 특히 독일의 인증기관 TUV SUD로부터 수차례 온·오프라인 실사를 거쳐 제품 탄소발자국(PCF) 검증을 완료하며 국제적인 공신력도 확보했다.
그 결과, 이 제품은 환경부 환경성적표지(EPD) 기준 대비 탄소 배출량을 최대 60%까지 감축할 수 있는 것으로 평가받고 있다.
포스코는 이러한 성과를 바탕으로 지난 6월 23일(현지시간) 이탈리아 베로나에서 프랑케와 ‘프리미엄 스테인리스 싱크’ 제품에 대한 소재 공급 업무협약을 체결했다. 협약에 따라 포스코는 프랑케에 해당 친환경 스테인리스를 공급하게 되며, 프랑케는 유럽시장 내 친환경 프리미엄 주방제품군을 더욱 확대해 나갈 계획이다.
프랑케의 필립포 말템피 구매·개발 담당 임원은 “2012년 첫 거래 이후 포스코 제품에 대한 높은 신뢰를 바탕으로 구매를 꾸준히 확대해 왔다”며, “현재는 포스코가 프랑케의 스테인리스 최대 공급선으로 자리 잡았다”고 전했다.
포스코 이경진 스테인리스 마케팅실장은 “주방 싱크뿐만 아니라 가전 등 다양한 분야의 고객사와 협력해 탄소저감 노력을 적극 지원하고, 글로벌 스테인리스 시장 내 시장력을 지속적으로 강화해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

POSCO has launched a new customized ‘Premium Stainless Sink’ product in collaboration with Europe’s largest system kitchen manufacturer, Franke. This product is made of stainless steel, which is a result of POSCO’s eco-friendly technology, and is a high value-added product designed to respond to global carbon regulations.
POSCO explained that it has significantly reduced carbon emissions during the production process by increasing the scrap usage ratio to over 90% and generating power using renewable energy such as solar energy. In particular, it has secured international credibility by completing product carbon footprint (PCF) verification through several online and offline inspections by German certification agency TUV SUD.
As a result, this product is evaluated to be able to reduce carbon emissions by up to 60% compared to the Ministry of Environment’s Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) standards.
Based on these achievements, POSCO signed a material supply agreement with Franke for the ‘Premium Stainless Sink’ product in Verona, Italy on June 23 (local time). According to the agreement, POSCO will supply the eco-friendly stainless steel to Franke, and Franke plans to further expand its eco-friendly premium kitchen product line in the European market.
“Since our first transaction in 2012, we have steadily expanded our purchases based on the high level of trust in POSCO products,” said Philippo Maltempi, executive in charge of purchasing and development at Franke. “Currently, POSCO has established itself as the largest stainless steel supplier for Franke.”
POSCO’s Lee Kyung-jin, head of stainless steel marketing, said, “We will actively support carbon reduction efforts by cooperating with customers in various fields such as kitchen sinks as well as home appliances, and continue to strengthen our market presence in the global stainless steel market.”
