대전시립연정국악원이 신청사 개관 10주년을 맞아 준비한 기념행사가 지난 18일 성황리에 막을 내렸다.
이날 대전시 서구에 위치한 국악원에서 진행된 행사는 대전의 국악 역사를 되짚고, 향후 발전 방향을 모색하는 뜻깊은 자리로 마련됐다.
기념식에는 이장우 대전시장을 비롯해 김은하 국악방송 본부장, 이환수 국악협회장 등 국악계 인사와 시민 100여 명이 참석해 10년간의 발자취를 함께 돌아보며 축하의 마음을 나눴다.
국악원은 2014년 신청사로 이전한 이후, 지역 전통음악의 중심 기관으로서 꾸준한 성장과 변화를 이끌어왔다.
이날 본 행사에 앞서 열린 전시에서는 국악원의 변천사를 한눈에 살펴볼 수 있는 기록물과 함께, 지역 국악 자산인 가야금 악보 '졸장만록(拙莊漫錄)'이 공개돼 관람객들의 눈길을 끌었다. 더불어 현대미술의 거장 이성근 화백은 국악을 주제로 한 드로잉 퍼포먼스를 선보이며 전통예술과 현대미술의 경계를 허물었다.
올해 제정된 첫 '국악의 날'(6월 5일)을 기념해 마련된 유공자 표창에서는 김혜경 대전국악방송 국장과 유현문 청흥가야금연주단 회장이 선정돼 공로를 인정받았다.

기념식 이후 이어진 공연 무대는 한층 특별한 구성으로 꾸며졌다. 대전시립국악단이 연주한 ‘종묘제례악’ 무대에는 이장우 시장이 직접 참여해 대전의 번영과 국악원의 미래를 기원하는 퍼포먼스를 선보여 관객들로부터 뜨거운 박수와 환호를 받았다.
또한 이날은 임상규 신임 예술감독 겸 지휘자의 공식 데뷔 무대이기도 했다. 임 감독은 전통과 창작을 아우르는 품격 있는 무대를 통해 국악의 저변 확대와 미래 비전을 제시하며 성공적인 첫발을 내디뎠다.
공연은 국악원을 거쳐 간 역대 단원들과의 협연을 비롯해 국악관현악, 성악, 전통무용 ‘처용무’, 연희, 그리고 가수 장사익 씨와의 콜라보레이션까지 다채로운 장르가 어우러지며 관객의 큰 호응 속에 마무리됐다.
이장우 대전시장은 축사를 통해 “국악원이 앞으로도 지역 문화예술을 선도하고, 전통예술의 가치와 아름다움을 널리 알리는 중추적 기관이 될 것”이라며 “대전의 전통음악을 세계에 알리고 도시의 문화적 위상을 높이기 위해 모든 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 말했다.
대전시립연정국악원은 이번 10주년을 계기로 국악의 현대적 계승과 지역 문화 생태계의 확장을 위한 다채로운 프로그램을 이어갈 계획이다.
