【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구섬유박물관이 개관 10주년을 기념해 마련한 특별전이 성황리에 진행되고 있다.
지난 6월 5일 문을 연 'Beyond Textile : 섬유, 경계를 넘다' 전시는 투명망토부터 미래섬유까지 아이들은 물론 어른들에게도 큰 인기를 끌고 있다.
이번 전시는 섬유를 기존 천의 개념에서 벗어나 산업·기술·예술을 아우르는 미래 섬유의 새로운 모습을 소개한다.
탄소섬유, 아라미드 등 특수 소재에서부터 3D 프린팅 패션, AI가 만든 가상 옷에 이르기까지 섬유가 어떻게 바뀌고 있는지, 그 속에 담긴 기술과 감성, 친환경 메시지를 다양하게 보여준다.
가장 인기 있는 체험은 단연 '투명망토 체험'이다. 최근 과학기술은 빛의 방향을 바꾸는 '메타물질' 기술을 바탕으로 투명망토를 현실에서 구현할 수 있게 되었다.
관람객들은 특정 각도에서 모습이 사라지는 신기한 경험을 직접 해보며 섬유가 미래 기술과 어떻게 만날 수 있는지 상상해볼 수 있다.
전시 2부에서는 디자이너 이승익과 한나신의 작품을 통해 3D 프린팅 기술이 어떻게 쓰이는지 보여준다. 한나신은 버려진 로봇 부품과 남은 비즈를 활용해 3D 프린팅 드레스를 만들었고, 이승익은 가죽 위에 3D 프린팅 기법으로 무늬를 새겨 기술과 감성이 만난 아름다운 작품을 선보인다.
잉크젯처럼 섬유 위에 바로 입체 모양을 뽑아내는 기술은 천을 버리지 않고도 정확하게 만들 수 있으며, 주문받은 만큼만 생산하고 바로 수정하며 쓰레기를 최소화할 수 있어 친환경 패션의 새로운 길을 제시한다.
전시에서는 AI가 디자인한 비스퍽의 옷을 선보인다. AI는 단순한 반복 작업을 대신하는 수준을 넘어 인간의 감성과 창의성까지 보여주고 있다.
실제로 샘플을 만들지 않고 가상으로 모델링하고 시뮬레이션하는 디자인 작업은 천과 부자재 낭비, 촬영과 운송에 쓰이는 에너지와 쓰레기를 크게 줄인다.
정확한 수요 예측과 맞춤형 생산도 가능해 과도한 생산과 재고 문제를 최소화한다.
박물관은 전시와 함께 오는 21일부터 11월 20일까지 매주 목요일 오후 2시 총 12회에 걸쳐 패션인문학 강좌 '옷장 속 과학'을 진행한다.
문화체육관광부와 한국문화예술위원회가 주관하는 '2025 지혜학교' 공모사업에 대구 지역 공립박물관 중 유일하게 선정된 이번 강좌는 섬유·패션을 과학과 인문학 관점에서 통합적으로 바라볼 수 있도록 기획됐다.
1부 '옷장 속 과학'에서는 투명망토, 스마트 의류, 방탄 섬유 등 섬유 기술을 문화적 맥락과 함께 살펴보고, 2부 '옷장 속 문화'에서는 예술·성·사치·스포츠 등 패션이 사회적 상징으로 역할해온 과정을 다룬다.
강연에는 이승익(홍익대), 양영환(국립창원대), 김봉훈(DGIST), 김정숙(영남대), 김민지(Tracing Patterns Foundation) 등 산업계·학계·연구계를 대표하는 전문가들이 참여한다.
전시는 오는 10월 12일까지 대구섬유박물관 2층 기획전시실에서 무료로 볼 수 있다.

The most popular experience is undoubtedly the "Invisibility Cloak Experience." Recent scientific advancements in "metamaterials," which redirect light, have made it possible to create an invisibility cloak in reality.
Visitors can experience the novelty of disappearing from a specific angle and imagine how textiles might intersect with future technologies.
Part 2 of the exhibition showcases the use of 3D printing technology through the works of designers Seungik Lee and Hanna Shin. Hanna Shin created a 3D-printed dress using discarded robot parts and leftover beads, while Seungik Lee created a beautiful work where technology and sensibility intersect, etching patterns onto leather using 3D printing.
This technology, which directly prints three-dimensional shapes onto fabric like an inkjet, allows for precise fabrication without discarding fabric. It also allows for production of just the amount ordered, immediate modifications, and minimal waste, offering a new path to eco-friendly fashion.
The exhibition also showcases AI-designed Bisperk clothing. AI goes beyond simply replacing repetitive tasks, showcasing human sensibility and creativity.
Design processes, which involve virtual modeling and simulations rather than creating actual samples, significantly reduce fabric and material waste, as well as the energy and waste generated by photography and transportation.
Accurate demand forecasting and customized production also enable minimizing overproduction and inventory issues.
In conjunction with the exhibition, the museum will host a fashion humanities lecture series, "Science in the Closet," every Thursday at 2:00 PM from November 21st to November 20th. This series, the only public museum in the Daegu area selected for the "2025 Wisdom School" project, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Council Korea, is designed to provide an integrated view of textiles and fashion from both scientific and humanities perspectives.
Part 1, "Science in the Closet," examines textile technologies such as invisibility cloaks, smart clothing, and bulletproof fabrics within their cultural contexts. Part 2, "Culture in the Closet," explores the ways in which fashion has served as a social symbol, encompassing art, sex, luxury, and sports.
The lectures will feature leading experts from industry, academia, and research, including Seung-ik Lee (Hongik University), Young-hwan Yang (Changwon National University), Bong-hoon Kim (DGIST), Jeong-sook Kim (Yeungnam University), and Min-ji Kim (Tracing Patterns Foundation).
The exhibition is open to the public for free until October 12th at the Daegu Textile Museum's special exhibition hall on the second floor.
