[브레이크뉴스=김선옥 기자] 제30회 부산국제영화제 포럼 비프(Forum BIFF)가 오는 9월 20일(토) 오후 2시, '다시, 아시아영화의 길을 묻다'를 주제로 특별 포럼을 연다.
이번 포럼은 개교 30주년을 맞은 한국예술종합학교와 협력하여, 지난 30년간 축적된 영상 교육의 성과를 되돌아보고 아시아 영상 교육의 지속 가능한 미래를 함께 모색하는 자리로 마련됐다.
영상원, 30년간 아시아 영상인재 양성의 중심에 서다
1995년 개교한 한국예술종합학교 영상원은 한국 영화의 질적 도약을 이끈 교육기관으로, 아시아 전역에서 활동하는 창작 인재들을 다수 배출해왔다. 영상원은 공동 제작 프로그램과 국제 인프라 구축을 통해 K-콘텐츠를 세계에 알리는 데 선도적인 역할을 해왔다.

아시아 영상 교육의 미래: 공동 제작의 성과와 방향 제시
이번 포럼의 주요 주제는 '아시아 영상 교육의 미래'다. 그동안 영상원이 동아시아 주요 영화 교육기관과 협력해 운영한 공동 단편영화 제작 프로그램의 성과를 공유하고, 그 과정에서 형성된 상호 교육적 교류의 사례를 조명한다.
특히 한·일, 한·중 공동 제작 과정을 통해 서로 다른 교육 환경이 어떻게 영향을 주고받았는지 구체적인 사례를 소개하고, 국제 장학 프로그램 'AMA+ (Art Major Asian Plus)'를 통해 아시아 문화 리더 양성의 가능성도 조망할 예정이다.
'캠퍼스아시아 플러스'와 AAEN, 기술 변화에 대응하는 교육 모델
포럼에서는 '캠퍼스아시아 플러스' 프로그램을 통한 아시아 애니메이션 교육 네트워크(AAEN)의 구축 사례도 발표된다. 해당 프로그램은 한국·일본·중국·ASEAN 국가 대학생 간의 애니메이션 공동 제작을 촉진하며, 첨단 교육, 국제 교류, 산학협력의 가치를 통합한 교육 모델로 주목받고 있다.
이와 함께 '애니메이션 콘텐츠 생태계가 기술 혁신에 따라 어떻게 변화하고 있으며, 인공지능(AI) 기술을 영상 교육 및 제작 환경에서 어떻게 수용할 것인가'에 대한 논의도 이루어진다.
BIFF와 지역 기반의 영화 교육 협력 성과 조명
부산국제영화제가 오랫동안 추진해온 아시아 영화 교육 프로젝트도 이번 포럼에서 소개된다. 'CHANEL X BIFF 아시아영화아카데미', '한-ASEAN 차세대 영화인재육성사업(FLY)', '부산아시아영화학교(AFiS)' 등의 사례를 통해 신진 영화인의 발굴과 네트워크 확장을 위한 노력과 그 성과가 조명된다.
포럼 관계자는 '아시아 공동 제작의 성장 과정과 지속 가능성을 탐색하며, 앞으로의 영화 교육 방향성을 논의하는 중요한 시간이 될 것'이라고 밝혔다.
3부 구성의 심도 깊은 포럼…국내외 전문가 참여
이번 포럼은 총 3부로 구성된다. 1부에서는 영상원 최용배 교수의 사회로 포럼의 문을 열고, 영상이론과 김소영 교수가 기조 발제를 맡는다. 2부는 이정민 교수(애니메이션과), 편장완 교수(영화과), 힘 소티샤 감독(캄보디아, AMA+ 출신), 안지혜 프로듀서가 발제를 이어간다.
3부에서는 기 발제자들과 함께 이승희 영화평론가, 덴간 다이스케 일본영화대학 학장, 리우위 베이징영화학원 교수, 티안 리 예일대 강사, 인도네시아의 막불 무바락 감독이 참여해 '지속 가능한 아시아 영상 교육의 미래'에 대해 심도 있는 토론을 벌일 예정이다.

'Revisiting the Path of Asian Cinema': Sharing Achievements and Future Vision of Asian Film Education
As part of the 30th Busan International Film Festival, Forum BIFF will hold a special forum under the theme 'Revisiting the Path of Asian Cinema' on Saturday, September 20 at 2 PM. Organized in collaboration with the Korea National University of Arts (K-Arts) School of Film, TV & Multimedia (hereafter 'K'Arts'), which marks its 30th anniversary this year, the forum will reflect on three decades of educational achievement and explore sustainable directions for Asian film education.
K-Arts: At the Center of Asian Film Talent Development for 30 Years
Founded in 1995, K-Arts has played a leading role in the dramatic development of Korean cinema and in nurturing Asian film professionals. It has become a key national institution fostering cultural and artistic capabilities, actively establishing co-production programs and international infrastructure to promote K-Content on the global stage.
'Over the past 30 years, K-Arts has led the way in building global capabilities in culture, arts, and education, while producing future cultural leaders across Asia,' the forum organizers noted.
The Future of Asian Film Education: Co-Production as a Model
This year's forum will center on the theme 'The Future of Asian Film Education,' highlighting the outcomes of collaborative short film production programs conducted with major East Asian film education institutions. The forum will present specific examples of how co-production between Korea-Japan and Korea-China has worked as a platform for mutual influence and learning across different educational environments.
In addition, the international scholarship program AMA+ (Art Major Asian Plus) will be introduced as a case study for cultivating cultural leaders and enhancing artistic exchange among Asian countries.
CAMPUS Asia Plus and AAEN: Blending Innovation and Education
The forum will also spotlight the 'CAMPUS Asia Plus' program, which facilitates student exchanges and co-production of animation works among Korea, Japan, China, and ASEAN nations. This initiative has led to the development of the Asian Animation Education Network (AAEN), integrating cutting-edge education, international exchange, and industry-academia collaboration.
A major point of discussion will be the rapidly evolving ecosystem of animation content and how emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) are being addressed and integrated into content production and education.
BIFF’s Educational Collaborations: From Emerging Filmmakers to Regional Impact
The forum will explore the achievements of BIFF’s ongoing educational initiatives, including the CHANEL X BIFF Asian Film Academy, the Korea-ASEAN filmmaking program (FLY), and the Busan Asian Film School (AFiS). These programs have been instrumental in nurturing emerging filmmakers and expanding Asian film networks.
According to forum organizers, 'These programs have fostered regional cooperation in film production and talent development, and we now look toward sustainable growth and future directions.'
Three-Part Forum Featuring International Experts
The forum will consist of three sessions. The first session will be moderated by Professor Choi Yong-bae of K-Arts and will feature a keynote speech by Professor Kim Soyoung (Film Theory). The second session will include presentations from Professors Lee Jung-min (Animation), Pyeon Jang-wan (Film), AMA+ alumni Him Sothisak (Cambodian director), and producer Ahn Ji-hye.
In the third session, a panel discussion will be held with the above speakers joined by film critic Lee Seung-hee; Daisuke Tengan, Dean of Japan Institute of the Moving Image; Liu Yu, Professor at Beijing Film Academy; Tian Li, Lecturer at Yale University’s Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures; and Indonesian director Makbul Mubarak. The panel will discuss strategies for sustainable development in Asian film education.
Looking Ahead to the Next 30 Years
This special forum not only commemorates the achievements of K-Arts over the past three decades, but also serves as a meaningful platform to envision the next 30 years of Asian film education. It is expected to be a valuable occasion for proposing new directions and visions for film professionals across the region.
