정권교체국민행동측은 14일자 보도자료를 통해 “김무성 대표(전 새누리당 대표)가 ‘서울시장후보 야권단일화 관련 긴급 기자회견’을 오늘 낮 3시 국회 소통관에서 갖는다. 작년, 마포포럼 ‘더좋은세상으로’의 공동대표를 맡아 운영하면서, 올해 보궐선거를 위해 ‘단일화’의 분위기를 만들어 권력심판 및 야권승리의 가능성을 다져온 장본인이 ‘김무성’이다. 그동안 마포포럼에 오세훈, 안철수, 금태섭 등을 초청하여 어려운 시국을 논의하고 함께 정국을 타개해 나가야 한다는 공감대를 형성하는 데 앞장서 왔다. 그 결과 ‘안철수-금태섭’ 단일화와 ‘국민의 힘’ 내부경선을 통해, ‘안철수-오세훈, 오세훈-안철수 단일화’의 현실가능성을 열었다”고 전하고 “시간이 제한적인 상황에서 단일화에 실패할 수도 있다는 안팎의 경고가 켜지면서, 김무성 대표가 직접 긴급 기자회견을 통해 두 후보와 국민 앞에 충정 어린 자신의 입장과 단일화를 소망하는 시민들의 염원을 밝히는 기자회견을 갖게 되었다”고 알렸다.
이번 기자회견에는, 한마음으로 ‘정권교체국민행동’ ‘폭정종식비상시국연대’ ‘더좋은세상으로(마포포럼)’ ‘범시민사회단체연합’ ‘범보수연합’ ‘신전대협’ ‘한반도정책포럼’ ‘대한민국국민포럼’ 등 560여 시민사회단체가 함께한다.
이와 관련, 범사련 이갑산 대표는, “김무성 대표는 한결같이 누구 편도 아니며, 단일화만이 나라를 살리는 길이라고 말해왔다. 두 아권후보가 김무성의 진정성을 이해하고 국민 앞에서 아름다운 단일화를 이룰 것을 믿어 의심치 않는다”고 입장을 밝혔다.
