브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 대우건설이 리비아에서 미화 7억 ,000만불(한화 약 1조원) 규모의 발전공사를 수주했다.
대우건설은 지난 9일 리비아전력청(GECOL, General Electricity Company of Libya)과 멜리타/미수라타 패스트트랙 패스트트랙(Fast Track) 발전 공사 계약을 체결했다고 10일 밝혔다.
해당 공사는 리비아 멜리타 및 미수라타 지역에 가스화력 발전소를 건설하는 공사다. 내전으로 전력공급이 여의치 않았던 리비아는 전력청의 지속적인 개선 노력으로 최근 안정적인 전력 공급을 해 오고 있으나, 급증하는 하절기 전력 수요에 대비하기 위해 이번 공사를 발주하게 됐다.
대우건설은 양국 수교 전인 1978년 국내업체 최초로 리비아에 진출한 이래 발전, 석유화학, 토목, 건축 등 다양한 공종에 총 163여건, 약 110억 달러 프로젝트를 수행하면서 리비아 정부의 지속적인 신뢰를 얻어 왔다.
2003년 벵가지북부발전소를 시작으로 리비아에서만 4건의 대형발전소 공사를 계약하였으며, 전후(戰後) 전력난을 겪고 있는 리비아 정부와 전력청의 요청으로 중단된 발전 공사의 재개를 위해 협의하던 중, 리비아 정부의 재신임을 받아 이번 긴급공사를 수주하게 됐다.
대우건설 관계자는 “리비아 멜리타/미수라타 패스트트랙 발전 공사는 대우건설의 주요 시장 중 하나였던 리비아를 꾸준히 지켜온 대우건설의 치밀한 전략과 인내심이 만들어낸 쾌거라는 점에서 의미가 깊다”며 “대우건설은 리비아 건설시장에 대한 경험과 이해도가 높은 만큼 효율적 공사 수행에 따른 수익성도 기대되며, 향후 리비아 내 적극적인 시장 확대도 꾀할 수 있을 것이다”고 말했다.
