[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 사천시 박동식 시장이 더불어민주당, 국민의힘 등 여·야 국회의원들과 연이어 만남을 갖는 등 우주항공청 조기 설치를 위해 사활을 걸고 발품을 팔았다.
박 시장은 19일부터 20일까지 양일간 국회를 방문, 우주항공청의 조기 설립의 필요성에 대한 설명과 함께 특별법 통과를 위한 초당적 협조를 요청했다.
또한, 우주항공청 청사 후보지, 우주항공복합도시 조성 계획 등 우주항공청의 성공적 개청과 우주강국 실현을 뒷받침하기 위한 사천시와 경남도의 노력과 준비사항을 설명했다.
이번 방문은 지난 4월 4일 국무회의 의결을 거쳐 6일 국회에 제출돼 소관위인 과방위로 접수된 ‘정부의 우주항공청 특별법 조기 통과’를 건의하기 위해 마련됐다.
박 시장은 이재명 당대표, 정청래 과방위 위원장을 비롯해 이인영, 정필모, 최인호, 박찬대, 민홍철, 설훈 등 더불어민주당 8명의 국회의원과 만남의 자리를 가졌다.
이번 만남에서 이재명 당대표는 우주항공청 사천설립에 대해 긍정적인 메시지를 전달했고 정청래 과방위 위원장은 임기내 특별법 통과에 최선을 다하겠다고 답변했다.

그리고 박 시장은 여당 간사인 박성중 의원을 비롯해 조경태, 엄태영, 윤상현, 주호영, 배현진 등 국민의힘 소속 의원도 5명을 만났다.
또한, 무소속 윤미향 의원도 만나 특별법 조기 통과를 건의하고 야당 간사인 조승래 의원이 대표발의한 우주개발 진흥법 일부개정법률안에 대해서도 자세히 설명했다.
박동식 시장은 “뉴스페이스 시대의 도래에 따라 우주 시장 선점을 위한 전 세계의 치열한 경쟁이 벌어지고 있다”며 “대한민국 우주항공 역량이 우주항공청에 결집될 수 있도록 국회에 제출된 특별법을 빠르게 통과시켜주기를 건의드린다”고 말했다.
