인류 사회는 근년 30여년 사이에 질적(質的) 변화를 경험했다. 인터넷 세상으로 급(急) 변환 됐다. 오늘날, 글로벌 사회는 인터넷 세상이다. 이러한 인터넷 세상을, 과연 무엇이 가능하게 했을까? 여러 가지 요인이 있었겠지만, 핵심은 반도체이다. 반도체가 이런 세상을 만들어내는 핵(核)이었다.
반도체는 현대 국제사회를 이끌고 있고, 미래사회로 견인해가는 원동력이랄 수 있다. 전쟁 상태인 러시아-우크라이나 전쟁에서 드론을 이용한 첨단전쟁이 주목을 끌고 있다. AI(인공지능) 전쟁시대 인 것이다. 드론에 첨단 무기를 장착, 드론이 날아가, 무기를 투하하는 등 첨단전쟁을 하고 있다. 미국의 나사(NASA)는 화성 탐사를 성공리 끝냈다. 미국의 샌프란시스코 등의 도시에서는 무인 자동차가 운행되고 있다. 이런 세상을 만들어 낸 주역이 과연 무얼까? 반도체이다. 반도체가 있어야 만이 가능한 일이다.
