가족중에 아들은 탈모가 있는데 딸은 탈모가 없는 경우가 많다.
또한 주변을 살펴보아도 유독 남성들이 탈모가 많은 것을 볼 수 있다.
그 이유는 뭘까?
남성에게 가장 많은 탈모 형태인 안드로겐형 탈모의 원인은 70~80% 유전이다. 일반적으로 젊은 여성에게는 휴지기 탈모가 많지만 갱년기 즈음에 발생하는 여성탈모는 안드로겐형 탈모 비율이 증가한다.
안드로겐형 탈모의 진행 양상은 남자는 앞머리와 정수리 모발이 얇아지고, 여자는 정수리 가르마를 중심으로 모발이 얇아지기 시작하여 정수리 전체로 확산된다.
전체 비율로 보았을때 여성탈모 인구가 남성보다 적은 이유는 2가지로 요약해서 말할 수 있다.
첫째는 호르몬이다.
여자는 남자에 비해 여성호르몬이 약 6배 이상 많다. 여성호르몬은 모발 성장을 촉진시키는 호르몬이다. 여자들이 남자에 비해 모발이 빨리 자라고 긴 이유이기도 하다. 많은 여성들이 갱년기때 모발이 가늘어지면서 탈모가 진행되는 이유는 여성 호르몬 감소 때문이다;
둘째는 염색체 이유다.
남자의 염색체는 XY, 여자 염색체는 XX이다. 여자는 X염색체 2개를 가지고 있고 남자는 1개의 X염색체를 가지고 있다.
탈모유전자는 X염색체에 전달된다. 여성의 경우 탈모유전자가 X염색체 2개 모두에 전달이 되야 탈모가 나타나는 반면 남자는 X염색체 1개만 전달되어도 탈모가 발생된다.
만약, 여성이 정수리 가르마 주위 모발이 얇아지기 시작했다면 바로 치료를 시작하는 것이 좋다. 모낭이 소실되기 전에 치료를 시작해야 치료기간이 단축시킬 수 있기 때문이다. 모낭이 살아 있는 경우 여성탈모는 남성탈모에 비해서 치료가 빠르게 된다.
모낭이 살아있는 경우 여성탈모 치료 기간은 약 6개월 정도면 된다.
