의왕시(시장 김성제)가 지난해 12월 27일 국토교통부가 주관하는 ‘2023년도 지속가능 교통도시 평가’ 라그룹(인구 30만 미만 10만 명 이상 도시)에서 ‘우수상’을 수상했다.
의왕시는 △지능형교통체계(ITS) 구축 △인구당 알뜰카드 이용률 △자전거 또는 보행활성화 기반 노력 등 시민이 체감할 수 있는 다양한 교통정책을 추진해 높은 평가를 받았다.
국토교통부(장관 박상우)는 ‘지속가능 교통물류발전법’ 제15조에 따라 ‘지속가능 교통도시 평가’를 2010년부터 매년 인구 10만 명 이상인 73개 지자체를 대상으로 인구 규모·특성에 따라 가·나·다·라 4개 그룹으로 구분, 실시하고 있다.

이번 수상으로 의왕시는 인구 10만 이상 30만 미만 도시그룹에서 9년 연속 지속가능한 교통도시로 선정돼 교통 선진도시로 자리매김했다.
김성제 의왕시장은 “자율주행 및 배달로봇 등 변화하는 시대의 흐름에 맞춰 교통 인프라 구축과 다양한 교통서비스 발굴에 힘써 안전하고 편리한 교통환경을 조성하는 데 최선을 다하겠다”라고 밝혔다.
