(브레이크뉴스인천 문광수 기자) 인천시가 4일 백령·대청 국가지질공원이 환경부로부터 국가지질공원 재인증과 함께 유네스코 세계지질공원 후보지로 선정됐다고 밝혔다.
인천시에 따르면, 유네스코 세계지질공원은 국제적인 지질학적 가치를 지닌 명소와 경관을 보전과 교육, 지속가능한 발전을 위해 관리하는 곳으로, 2023년 12월 기준 전 세계적으로 48개국 195개소가 운영되고 있다.
유네스코 세계지질공원 인증을 위해서는 국제가치규명, 기반시설 구축, 지오협력체계 등 101가지 인증요건을 달성해야 한다.
이를 위해 시는 2023년 2편의 국제학술 논문을 확보했고, 생태관광센터, 지질공원센터를 건립 중에 있으며, 학생 체험 프로그램 운영, 시민체험행사, 사진전 전시 등을 통해 시민들과 소통하고 있다.
인천시는 올해부터는 유네스코 세계지질공원 인증을 위한 체계적인 추진을 위해 백령·대청 지질공원 센터조성, 협력시설 및 안내소 영문표기 등 기반시설 구축과 지오빌리지, 지오스쿨, 지오파트너 운영 등을 통해 지역사회와 연계한 지역경제 활성화에 집중할 계획이다.
아울러, 최근 강화된 국제가치규명을 위해 추가적인 학술용역도 실시할 예정이다.
백령·대청 지질공원 국가지질공원 인증 후 코로나 위기를 극복하고 지질공원해설사 수요 및 관광객이 꾸준히 증가하고 있다.
