3일 경주시에 따르면 이날 행사는 정각원·불국사합창단, 내일은 미스트롯2 출신 초대가수 별사랑 축하 공연 등을 시작으로 삼귀의례, 연등 점등식, 제등행렬, 회향식의 순으로 진행됐다.
연등이 점등되는 순간 형산강 연등숲이 금장대 불빛과 함께 형산강에 그대로 비쳐 아름다운 장관을 연출했고, 불꽃쇼는 경주의 밤하늘을 수놓았다.
특히 개막식의 백미인 제등행렬은 개막식 무대에서 경주여고 삼거리를 거쳐 중앙시장 네거리를 지나 봉황대까지 2.9㎞ 구간으로 동국대 WISE캠퍼스, 불국사 신도, 경주불교사암연합회, 경주시민 등 2000여 명이 참석했다.
이들은 대취타대와 장엄등을 앞세워 연등을 손에 들고 불빛으로 경주 일원을 가득 채워 다채로운 볼거리를 제공했다.
‘지혜의 등불, 행복한 세상’이라는 슬로건으로 개최되는 이번 축제는 4일까지 금장대 맞은편 둔치에서 장엄등 전시와 연등 만들기, 첨성대 별 던지기, 단청 색칠하기 등 체험행사 및 연등 페스타가 펼쳐진다.
또 행사 참가자들을 대상으로 형산강 청소와 함께 걷기대회를 겸하는 연등 플로깅도 진행된다.
축제 마지막 날인 26일까지는 황룡사지 내 금당지 및 목탑지에 연등을 설치하고 금장대 일대와 대로변을 중심으로 거리연등을 전시해 연등문화축제 행사 분위기를 조성한다.
더불어 부대행사로 축제 홈페이지를 통해 사진 공모전과 숏폼 영상 콘테스트를 운영해 행사 흥미를 유발한다.
주낙영 시장은 “지역의 대표 전통문화축제로 자리매김한 형산강 연등문화축제는 이제 종교를 떠나 성별, 세대와 관계없이 모두 함께 하나가 돼 참여하고 즐기는 행사로 발전됐다”며 “행사기간 동안 희망의 연등 불빛으로 수놓을 수준 높은 행사에 마음껏 즐기고 건강과 행복을 담아가시길 바란다.”고 말했다.
