의왕시가 지난 7월 17일 계원대학로 육교 하부에서 ‘갈미상가 벚꽃나무길 점등식’을 개최했다.
갈미상가는 의왕예술의거리에 위치한 330여 개의 다양한 소상공인 점포들이 밀집된 의왕시의 대표 상점가로 2021년 의왕시 제1호 골목형 상점가로 지정됐다.
갈미상가 환경개선 사업 첫 단계로 4월부터 진행한 경관조명 설치는 ‘빛의 거리’라는 테마로 벚꽃나무 가로등 및 보안등, 육교조명, 고보조명 등을 조성해 7월 13일 설치 공사를 마무리했다. 고가 하부와 좁은 골목이라는 지리적 단점을 극복하고 기존의 어두운 이미지를 탈피, 화사하고 밝은 이미지로 변신해 시민들의 큰 호응을 얻었다.
이날 점등식에는 김성제 의왕시장, 김학기 의왕시의회의장 및 시·도의원, 권창현 계원예술대학총장 등 내빈을 비롯해 지역 소상공인과 많은 시민이 참여했으며, 계원예술대학교 학생들의 캐리커쳐·페이스페인팅 부스와 경기아트센터 거리로 나온 예술팀과 내손1동 우크렐레 동아리의 축하공연도 진행됐다.

의왕시는 2022년 10월부터 갈미상가의 환경개선 사업추진을 위해 의왕예술의거리상인회(회장 한상규)와 시의원, 관계 공무원, 전문가와의 간담회를 개최하는 등 사업을 준비해 왔다. 2023년 12월 경기도 특별조정교부금 8억 원을 확보해 본격적으로 사업에 착수했다.
의왕시는 경관조명 설치를 시작으로 데크 및 클린하우스 교체 등 갈미상가 활성화를 위한 다양한 사업을 올해 내에 완성할 계획이다.
