윤석열 대통령이 6일 법 사명에 대해 "단순히 법조문 자체를 해석·적용하는 데만 그쳐선 안 되고 자유·공정·인권 같은 근본 가치가 사회에 제대로 실현될 수 있도록 기여해야 한다"고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오전 서울 중구 더플라자호텔에서 열린 '한국법학교수회 창립 60주년 기념식·학술대회'에 참석해 축사에서 "법을 다루는 실무가들은 법 본질·사회적 사명을 제대로 이해해야 한다"며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 "헌법 핵심 가치인 자유는 튼튼한 법치주의 위에 크게 확장될 수 있는데 법치 토대가 되는 법학이 새로운 도전에 직면해 있다"며 "사회질서를 유지하고 정의를 실현하는 데 반드시 필요한 게 법"이라고 강조했다.
이어 "자유·공정·인권 등 근본적 가치가 실현될 수 있도록 하는 법조인들 기여가 필요하다"며 "이를 위해 기초법학 소양이 견고해야 하고 기초법학이 소외·약화되면 정의·공정성·사회적 신뢰 기반까지 흔들릴 수밖에 없다"고 강조했다.
또 "지난 60년간 법학 교육·후학 양성을 위한 교수님들 헌신적 노력 덕분에 대한민국 법률 문화가 발전하고 우리 사회에 법치주의가 튼튼히 뿌리내릴 수 있었다"고 감사를 표했다.
더불어 "오늘 행사가 기초법학 중요성을 일깨우고 법학 교육 미래를 심도 있게 논의하는 자리가 되길 바란다"고 덧붙였다.
지난 1964년 창립된 한국법학교수회는 전국 4년제 대학에서 법률학을 강의하고 있는 교수·부교수·조교수·전임강사들로 구성된 단체로 현재 약 1600명 회원이 참여 중이다.
이 자리엔 한국법학교수회 회원 등 200여명과 박성재 법무장관·이원석 검찰총장·한기정 공정거래위원장·김주현 대통령실 민정수석·조희대 대법원장·이종석 헌법재판소장·주호영 국회부의장 등이 참석했다.
