The Office of the President announced on the 8th that First Lady Kim Kun-hee, the wife of President Yoon Seok-yeol, has decided not to accompany President Yoon on his overseas trip (APEC and G20 summits) scheduled for mid-month.
An official from the Blue House met with reporters at the Blue House in Yongsan this morning and said, "We have decided that Mrs. Kim will not accompany President Yoon on his scheduled state visit in the middle of this month," adding, "This is a follow-up measure to the president's speech and press conference yesterday."
At a press conference held at the Office of the President in Yongsan the previous day, in response to a question about Ms. Kim's external activities, President Yoon stated, "If the people don't like it, I think we shouldn't do it," and "According to my judgment and that of my key aides, we have practically suspended and will continue to suspend activities that are not absolutely necessary for the national interest."
The Office of the President plans to allow First Lady Kim to participate only in cases where it is determined to be absolutely necessary through meetings between President Yoon and his aides.
President Yoon is scheduled to visit Peru on a multilateral diplomatic tour, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit on the 15th and 16th, and the G20 summit in Brazil on the 18th and 19th.
Also, regarding the claim that "public opinion has been negative since the press conference," he stated, "We will work hard to gain the trust and confidence of the people through change," and "I think you can understand that the speech the day before was made with the common understanding that a change is necessary in the position of President Yoon and the Office of the President, and we have begun change and reform based on that awareness, and we plan to continue it going forward."
Meanwhile, the Second Office of Dedicated Aide to Mrs. Kim was also launched the day before, and although it was abolished after President Yoon took office, it was revived as the controversy surrounding Mrs. Kim continued. However, unlike the previous government, which had the office of the president's spouse in the main building, it is reported that only staff offices and reception rooms will be installed in the presidential office in Yongsan without an office.
In addition, President Yoon and his wife are planning to change their personal cell phone numbers that they have been using since before President Yoon's inauguration, and this is to block unnecessary noise caused by private contacts in advance.
