[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 하수도 공기업 특별회계의 계속된 적자 발생으로 하수처리 기반 조성 및 요금 현실화 등을 고려해 8년 만에 하수도 요금 인상을 결정했다고 18일 밝혔다.
시에 따르면 지난 2023년도 결산 결과 하수 1㎥(톤)에 대한 처리비용이 1744원인데 비해 하수도 요금은 455원으로 현실화율이 26.1%, 도내 시부 평균요금 641원, 현실화율 41.5%보다 매우 낮은 상태이다.
또 시는 하수처리장 방류수질 기준 강화에 따른 하수처리시설 확충 및 개선사업, 재해방지 및 하수 차집률 향상을 위한 노후하수관로 정비사업 등 다양한 재정수요가 꾸준히 증가해 온 것도 요인으로 작용했다.
이에 따라 내년 2월부터 인상 요금을 적용하며, 경기침체 등에 따른 지역경제 영향을 최소화하고 서민 생활 가계 부담 완화를 위해 오는 2028년까지 매년 약 11%씩 인상할 예정이다.
진주시 관계자는 “불가피하게 하수도 사용료를 인상하게 되었으며, 요금 현실화로 확보한 재원은 수질보전과 쾌적한 생활환경 조성을 위해 최선을 다 하겠다”고 말했다.
