의왕시가 지난 2월 14일 중앙도서관 강당에서 ‘2025년 작은도서관 사업 설명회’를 개최했다.
이날 설명회는 60여명의 작은도서관 운영자와 자원활동가들이 참여한 가운데 ‘2025년 의왕시작은도서관협의회 정기총회’에 맞춰 진행됐다.
의왕시는 사업설명회에서 전년 대비 37% 증액된 4억5,000만원의 작은도서관 운영 지원 예산 확보 현황을 소개하고, △도서 구매 및 독서프로그램 지원, △무더위·혹한기 냉난방비·기기 지원, △아이돌봄 독서문화프로그램 지원, △자원활동가 및 운영자활동비 지원 등 2025년도에 추진되는 작은도서관 지원 사업 일정 등에 대해 자세히 설명했다.

의왕시는 특히, 지난해 1개의 신규 작은도서관 개관에 이어 올해도 공공도서관 접근이 낮은 지역의 작은도서관 1개소 추가 조성 계획과 노후된 작은도서관 리모델링 사업 계획도 함께 밝혔다.
한편 의왕시작은도서관협의회는 정기총회에서 2024년 한 해 우수한 활동을 한 작은도서관 발전 유공자에게 표창장을 수여하고, 2024년 감사·결산 등에 대한 보고를 진행했다.
김성제 의왕시장은 “작은도서관이 단순한 독서 공간을 넘어 지역 사회의 중요한 문화 거점으로 자리 잡고 있다”며“작은도서관의 활성화를 위한 시설 개선과 도서관 운영자 및 자원활동가에 대한 지원을 지속적으로 추진하겠다”고 밝혔다.
의왕시 내 사립작은도서관은 총 33개소로 시민들의 정보 접근성 향상과 쾌적한 독서환경을 제공하는 데 중요한 역할을 하고 있다.

Uiwang City held the ‘2025 Small Library Project Briefing Session’ in the auditorium of the Central Library on February 14.
The briefing session was held in conjunction with the ‘2025 Uiwang Start Library Association Regular General Meeting’ with the participation of approximately 60 small library operators and volunteers.
At the briefing session, Uiwang City introduced the status of securing a budget for small library operation support of 450 million won, a 37% increase from the previous year, and explained in detail the schedule for the small library support project to be promoted in 2025, such as △support for book purchases and reading programs, △support for heating and cooling costs and equipment during hot and cold weather, △support for child care reading culture programs, and △support for volunteer and operator activity expenses.
In particular, following the opening of one new small library last year, Uiwang City also announced plans to create one more small library in an area with low access to public libraries this year, as well as a plan to remodel old small libraries.
Meanwhile, the Uiwang City Library Association presented awards to those who contributed to the development of small libraries in 2024 at the regular general meeting and reported on the 2024 audit and settlement.
Mayor Kim Seong-je of Uiwang City said, “Small libraries are becoming important cultural hubs in local communities beyond simple reading spaces,” and “We will continue to improve facilities and support library operators and volunteers to revitalize small libraries.”
There are a total of 33 private small libraries in Uiwang City, playing an important role in improving citizens’ access to information and providing a pleasant reading environment.
