한덕수 대통령 권한대행 국무총리가 28일 "제2연평해전 영웅 투혼을 새긴 유도탄 고속함·최강 호위함으로 돌아온 천안함을 비롯 막강한 해군력·무적 해병대 위용으로 우리 군은 서해 바다·서북도서를 굳건히 지켜낼 것"이라고 밝혔다.
한 대행은 이날 오전 대전 국립현충원에서 열린 '제10회 서해수호의 날 기념식'에 참석해 기념사에서 "영웅들의 고귀한 희생으로 서해는 굳건히 지켜냈지만 지구상에서 가장 퇴행적 북 정권은 오늘날에도 여전히 한반도·세계 평화를 위협하고 있다"며 이같이 밝혔다.
그러면서 "북 정권은 핵·미사일 개발에 몰두하고 적대적 두 국가론을 주장하며 북 전역을 요새화하고 미사일 발사·GPS 전파교란 등 위협적 도발을 지속하고 있다며 "또 러시아와의 불법적 무기거래를 통해 우리를 겨냥한 무기 체계를 개량하며 새로운 양상 도발을 획책하고 있다"고 지적했다.
이어 "그러나 이같은 북 위협 속에서도 우리 정부·군은 국민이 안심하고 일상생활을 영위할 수 있도록 만반의 대비태세를 갖추고 있다"며 "서해수호 용사들 투혼을 이어받은 후배 장병들은 강력한 전투역량·확고한 대비태세를 바탕으로 북의 어떤 도발에도 즉각 압도적으로 대응할 것"이라고 밝혔다.
또 "부상자들에겐 의료서비스를 개선하고 재활 지원을 확대하겠다"며 "순직 영웅 자녀들이 긍지·자부심을 갖고 성장할 수 있도록 정성을 다해 지원하고 유가족·참전 장병들은 생활에 불편함이 없도록 하겠다"고 했다.
더불어 "우리 바다를 지키기 위해 고귀한 생명을 바친 영웅들은 우리 마음속에 영원히 남아 있을 것"이라며 "서해를 지켜낸 영웅들께 경의를 표하며 유가족 여러분께 진심어린 위로의 뜻을 전한다"고 밝혔다.
한 대행은 "한·미동맹을 더욱 굳건히 하고 국제사회와 연대를 강화함으로써 감히 대한민국을 넘볼 수 없도록 안보태세를 확고히 유지해 나갈 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
이 자리에선 후배 장병들 각오를 담은 영상 상영·군가 합창 공연·공군 블랙이글스 추모비행 등이 이뤄져 서해수호 55용사의 숭고한 정신을 기렸다.
서해수호의 날은 제2연평해전·천안함 피격사건·연평도 포격전 등으로 희생된 서해수호 55용사를 기리고 국토수호 의지를 다기지 위해 지난 2016년부터 3월 넷째 금요일 정부기념식으로 치르고 있다.
기념식에 앞서 한 대행은 제2연평해전·연평도 포격전·천안함 46용사 묘역·고 한준호 준위 묘소 등을 찾아 참배 후 유가족들을 위로한 가운데 고 황도현 중사 부친 황은태 씨(제2연평해전)·고 서정우 하사 모친 김오복 씨(연평도 포격전)·고 이상희 하사 부친 이성우씨(천안함 피격사건)·고 한주호 준위 배우자 김말순 씨·최원일 전 천안함 함장 등이 함께했다.
