(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천 서구가 지난 26일 인천 서구 경명공원 내 콜롬비아군 참전 기념비에서 한국을 찾은 콜롬비아 해군 후안 리카르도 로소 오브레곤 사령관을 영접하고 함께 인천을 찾은 알레한드로 펠라에스 로드리게스 대사 등 주한 콜롬비아대사관과 함께 콜롬비아군 참전 기념 추모행사를 열었다고 밝혔다.
서구와 주한 콜롬비아대사관의 인연은 각별하다.
지난 1975년 가정동 콜롬비아공원에 세워진 콜롬비아군 참전 기념비를 계기로 양 기관은 매년 추모행사를 함께 이어가고 있다.
이 기념비는 인천2호선 지하철 공사로 지난 2018년부터 인근 연희동 경명공원에 자리를 잡고 있다.
이날 추모행사는 부산서 열리는 국제해양방위산업전 참석차 한국을 찾은 로소 해군 사령관이 인천 방문을 희망하면서 이뤄졌다.
대사관이 주최한 이날 추모행사에는 김상섭 서구 부구청장을 비롯해 해군 정영순 인천해역방어사령관, 6·25참전유공자회 이용진 서구지회장 등이 참석했다.
중남미 유일의 참전국인 콜롬비아는 6·25전쟁 당시 전투병 5,100여 명을 파병했다.
‘절대로 후퇴하지 않는다’는 신조로 콜롬비아군은 참전 간 금성지구전투, 김화400고지 전투 등에서 공을 세우고 213명이 전사 또는 실종되고 448명이 다쳤다.
매년 기념비를 찾아온 알레한드로 펠라에스 로드리게스 대사는 “추모식을 함께 개최해 준 대한민국과 인천 서구청과 인천해역방어사령부에 감사드린다”며 “앞으로도 양국 그리고 대사관과 인천 서구청의 긴밀한 관계가 계속 이어지길 바란다”고 말했다.
후안 리카르도 로소 오브레곤 사령관은 “지구 반대편에서 선배들의 영혼을 느낄 수 있는 소중한 경험이었다”며 “진심으로 방문을 환대해 준 인천 서구청에 깊이 감사드린다”고 말했다.
김상섭 서구 부구청장은 추모사를 통해 “콜롬비아군 참전 기념비는 콜롬비아 국민에게 선조의 희생과 용기를 기억하는 매우 소중한 장소일 것”이라며 “서구 주민에게도 마찬가지로 이곳은 잊지 말아야 할 소중한 유산이자 서구 주민의 추억이 담긴 곳”이라며 “앞으로도 그 가치를 지키는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
