(브레이크뉴스인천 문광수 기자) 부천시가 8일, 조용익 부천시장의 민선 8기 공약사항인 시립 심곡도서관 리모델링 공사를 지난 6월 26일 준공하고, 9월 재개관할 예정이라고 밝혔다.
부천시에 따르면, 부천시립 심곡도서관은 1985년에 준공된 부천시 최초의 시립도서관으로, 40년 넘게 시민과 함께 해왔다.
이번 리모델링은 시설 노후화로 인한 시민들의 불편을 해소하기 위해 추진됐으며, 특히 도서관 최초 설계자인 곽영훈 건축사의 ‘사람과 환경이 어우러지는 열린 공간’이라는 설계 의도를 존중해 진행됐다.
이번 사업은 시민들이 옥상에서 부천시 전망을 바라보며 쉴 수 있는 공간을 만들기 위해 추진됐다.
이를 위해 엘리베이터를 설치해 수직 동선을 개선토록 공공건축심의를 통해 편의성을 선제적으로 검토했다.
또한, 부천시는 설계 공모를 통해 부천 최초 시립도서관의 역사적 의미를 살리고자 ‘둥지 안에서 시작과 탄생’을 설계 방향으로 정해 실시설계를 진행했으며, 올해 1월 공사를 시작해 6월에 마무리했다.

4층은 소사청(년)정(점)구역인 청년 공간으로 꾸며 시민 맞춤형 공간을 마련해 이용자 편의를 최우선으로 고려했다.
옥상은 시민들에게 개방하고, 안전을 위해 난간을 추가 설치했으며, 휴식 공간 조성을 위해 그늘막을 새로 마련했다.
도서관 내부에는 디자인 가구를 새로 제작해 열람 환경을 개선했으며, 노후된 공조 설비와 수배전반 등을 교체해 지역 주민들이 쾌적하게 이용할 수 있도록 했다.
김의빈 부천시 시설공사과장은 “모든 시민이 세대 구분 없이 보다 편리하게 도서관을 이용할 수 있도록 하겠다”며, “앞으로도 이용자와 지역 특성을 반영한 공공 건축물 개선에 지속적으로 힘쓰겠다”고 말했다.
