백성현 논산시장이 연일 이어지는 폭염과 장기화된 가뭄에 대응하기 위해 전 공직자에게 철저한 대응체계 구축을 지시하며 비상 대응에 돌입했다.
백 시장은 지난 7일 개최된 정례 간부회의에서 “가뭄과 폭염은 단순한 불편을 넘어 시민의 생명과 재산을 직접 위협하는 중대한 위기”라며 “장마가 일찍 끝나며 고온 건조한 기후가 장기화될 것으로 전망되는 만큼, 전 부서가 협력해 실질적인 피해 예방에 총력을 기울여야 한다”고 강조했다.
논산시는 이미 폭염 대응 체계를 단계적으로 강화한 상태다. 폭염 대책 기간을 기존보다 앞당기고 연장했으며, 냉방 취약계층 보호를 위한 ‘무더위쉼터’ 520개소를 본격 운영 중이다. 스마트 그늘막 5개소도 신규 설치해 도심 열섬현상을 완화하고 시민의 보행 안전을 높이고 있다.

시 관계자는 “각종 재난 상황에 대응하기 위한 실무 매뉴얼을 재정비하고, 주민 홍보 및 안내 시스템도 정비 중”이라며 “위험에 노출된 취약계층을 선제적으로 보호하는 것이 이번 대책의 핵심”이라고 밝혔다.
