충남 금산군이 석면으로 인한 건강 피해를 예방하고 쾌적한 생활환경 조성을 위해 슬레이트 철거 지원 사업을 본격 추진한다. 군은 올해 슬레이트 처리 지원 대상자 186세대에 관련 내용을 통보했다고 9일 밝혔다.
슬레이트 지붕은 과거 건축 자재로 널리 사용됐지만, 주성분인 석면이 호흡기를 통해 체내에 흡입될 경우 중증 질환을 유발할 수 있어 그 위험성이 지속적으로 제기돼 왔다. 이에 따라 군은 슬레이트 건축물의 단계적 철거와 처리를 통해 주민의 건강권 확보에 나서고 있다.
이번 사업은 주택뿐 아니라 창고, 축사, 노인 및 어린이 시설 등 비주거 건축물까지 포함된다. 특히 비주택의 경우 건축물 면적 200㎡ 이하 범위에서 철거 비용을 지원받을 수 있다.
군은 올해부터 주택 슬레이트 철거 지원 상한액을 기존 352만 원에서 450만 원으로 상향 조정했다. 개인이 부담해야 했던 금액을 줄여 보다 실질적인 지원이 이뤄지도록 개선한 것이다.
금산군 관계자는 “주민들이 더욱 안전하고 건강한 주거환경에서 생활할 수 있도록 지속적으로 사업을 확대해 나가고 있다”며 “특히 주택 대상 지원금이 상향된 만큼, 슬레이트 지붕 철거를 망설였던 주민들의 적극적인 신청을 당부드린다”고 전했다.
한편, 군은 이번에 통보된 186세대 외에도 예산이 허용하는 범위 내에서 추가 신청을 지속적으로 접수하고, 순차적으로 철거 및 처리 절차를 진행할 계획이다.
