【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구소프트웨어마이스터고등학교(교장 박유현)가 지난 19일부터 오는 9월 1일까지 6주간, 학생 10명을 미국 실리콘밸리에 파견해 글로벌 현장학습 프로그램을 운영하고 있다.
이번 프로그램은 대구시교육청이 주관하는 직업계고 글로벌 현장학습의 일환으로, 참여 학생들은 실리콘밸리에 있는 5개 소프트웨어 스타트업에서 인턴십을 진행 중이다. 인공지능, 웹서비스, 교육 플랫폼 등 다양한 기술 분야의 기업에 배치돼, 실제 프로젝트에 참여하며 실무 경험을 쌓고 있다.
업무 외 시간에는 현직 구글 개발자와 스타트업 대표들의 특강, AI 기반 게임·챗봇 개발 워크숍, 미니 해커톤, API 개발 및 코딩 인터뷰 교육 등 실리콘밸리식 실전 중심 교육이 이어진다. 손재권 더밀크 대표와 손정갑 UNLV 교수의 특강도 포함돼 글로벌 기술 트렌드에 대한 이해를 넓히고 있다.
주말에는 실리콘밸리 현지 교민 자녀를 대상으로 코딩 교육 보조 활동도 펼친다. 학생들은 ACF(응용컴퓨팅재단) 코딩스쿨에서 자원봉사자로 참여해 교육 지원과 멘토링을 통해 현지 문화와 교육을 함께 체험하고 있다.
특히 이 프로그램은 실질적인 취업 성과로도 이어지고 있다. 지난해 참가자 4명이 현지 인턴십 기업에 정식 개발자로 채용된 바 있다.
박유현 교장은 “실리콘밸리에서 얻은 경험과 인맥은 학생들의 미래에 큰 자산이 될 것”이라며 “앞으로도 글로벌 경쟁력을 키울 수 있는 프로그램을 계속 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

Daegu Software Meister High School (Principal Park Yu-hyeon) is operating a global field study program by sending 10 students to Silicon Valley, USA for 6 weeks from the 19th to September 1st.
This program is part of the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education’s global field study for vocational high schools, and the participating students are undergoing internships at 5 software startups in Silicon Valley. They are assigned to companies in various technology fields such as artificial intelligence, web services, and education platforms, and are gaining practical experience by participating in actual projects.
Outside of work hours, there are special lectures by current Google developers and startup representatives, workshops on AI-based game and chatbot development, mini hackathons, API development, and coding interview training, etc., in the Silicon Valley style, focusing on practical education. Special lectures by Son Jae-kwon, CEO of The Milk, and Son Jeong-gap, a UNLV professor, are also included, broadening understanding of global technology trends.
On weekends, there are also coding education assistance activities for children of local Korean residents in Silicon Valley. Students are participating as volunteers at the ACF (Applied Computing Foundation) Coding School, experiencing local culture and education through educational support and mentoring.
In particular, this program is also leading to practical employment results. Last year, four participants were hired as full-time developers at local internship companies.
Principal Park Yoo-hyun said, “The experience and connections gained in Silicon Valley will be a great asset to the students’ future,” and added, “We will continue to expand programs that can foster global competitiveness in the future.”
