실경뮤지컬 왕의 나라 시즌3, '나는 독립군이다' 안동탈춤공원 특설무대에서

【브레이크뉴스 안동】박영재 기자=실경뮤지컬 ‘왕의나라 시즌3  나는 독립군이다’ 공연이 14일 부터 이틀간 안동탈춤공원 특설무대에서 열린다.

안동시에 따르면 ‘나는 독립군이다’는 갑오의병(1894년)부터 광복(1945년)까지 51년간 이어진 안동 지역 독립운동가들의 투쟁의 역사를 무대에 담아낸 작품이다. 실존 독립운동가인 권세연, 이만도, 이상룡, 김동삼, 남자현, 이육사 등과 이름을 남기지 않은 채 독립군으로 살았던 수많은 이들의 삶을 통해 ‘안동인(安東人)’과 ‘안동 유림’의 항일 정신을 생생하게 그려낸다.

이번 공연은 제작진을 제외한 출연진 규모만 총 200여명으로 왕의나라 뮤지컬이 시작된 이래 역대 최대 규모다. 서울과 부산에서 활동하는 전문 뮤지컬 배우를 비롯해 안동지역 연극인과 풍물패·무용단·합창단, 시민배우 등이 함께 무대에 오른다. 특히 이번 무대에는 다양한 세대가 참여해 지역 공동체의 문화적 저력을 보여줄 것으로 기대된다.

무대는 낙동강변의 안동 탈춤공원 회랑(回廊)을 배경으로 조명, 3D매핑(영상), 불꽃 등의 특수효과를 더한 몰입형 실경 형식으로 구성된다. 특히 전통 한옥 건축 요소에다 첨단 디지털 기술이 어우러지면서 시각적으로 압도적인 감동을 선사할 예정이다.

연출을 맡은 이정남 대표(극단 맥)는 “실경뮤지컬의 관광자원화 가능성을 높이고, 전통 소재를 현대적 무대 기술과 창작 음악, 독립군가로 풀어내며 세대 간 공감대를 형성하는 데 초점을 맞췄다”고 밝혔다.

권기창 안동시장은 “‘나는 독립군이다’는 독립운동의 역사와 정신을 입체적으로 조명하고, 관객에게 애국심과 지역 정체성에 대한 자긍심을 높이는 데 기여할 것”이라고 말했다.

입장료는 5천원(1인)이며, ‘안동시 지역화폐연계 페이백(pay-back)’ 제도에 따라 전액을 지역상품권(5천원권)으로 환급받는 사실상 무료 공연이다. 

한편. ‘왕의나라’ 시리즈는 지난 시즌까지 서울, 부산, 대구 등지에서 관객들이 찾아왔으며, 수도권 뮤지컬 팬들의 관심도 꾸준히 증가하고 있다. 이는 지역 공연예술의 관광상품화 가능성을 보여주는 긍정적인 사례로 평가된다.

이와 함께 지역 인재 양성과 문화예술 교육에도 기여하고 있다. 안동 지역 출연진을 중심으로 연극 아카데미를 운영했으며, 올해 초에는 안동시청 대동관 낙동홀에서 창작극 ‘흉가에 볕들어라’를 올리기도 했다.

This production features a cast of approximately 200, excluding the production crew, making it the largest production to date for the King's Country musical. Professional musical actors from Seoul and Busan, along with local Andong theater performers, pungmul bands, dance troupes, choirs, and citizen actors, will perform on stage. This production is expected to showcase the cultural strengths of the local community, with participation from a diverse range of generations.

The stage will be set against the backdrop of the corridors of Andong Mask Dance Park along the Nakdong River, and will feature immersive, realistic performances enhanced with special effects such as lighting, 3D mapping (video), and fireworks. The fusion of traditional Hanok architectural elements with cutting-edge digital technology promises a visually stunning performance.

Director Lee Jeong-nam (Theater Company Mac) stated, "We focused on maximizing the potential of real-life musicals as tourism resources and fostering a sense of empathy across generations by interpreting traditional themes with modern stage techniques, original music, and independence fighter songs."

Andong Mayor Kwon Ki-chang stated, "'I Am an Independence Army' will illuminate the history and spirit of the independence movement in a multi-faceted way and contribute to fostering patriotism and pride in local identity among audiences."

Admission is 5,000 won per person, and thanks to the Andong City local currency payback system, the entire ticket is refunded in the form of a local gift certificate (5,000 won), making it effectively free.

Meanwhile, the "King's Country" series has attracted audiences from Seoul, Busan, Daegu, and other regions through its last season, and interest among musical fans in the Seoul metropolitan area is steadily increasing. This is seen as a positive example of the potential for local performing arts to be commercialized as a tourism product.

Furthermore, the theater is also contributing to the development of local talent and cultural arts education. It operates a theater academy centered around Andong local performers, and earlier this year, it staged the original play "Sunrise in the Haunted House" at the Nakdong Hall of the Andong City Hall Daedonggwan.
