포항 북구 흥해읍 북송리 북천수는 2006년 천연기념물로 지정된 송림으로, 북천변을 따라 약 2.5km 길이로 조성돼 있다. 국내에서 세 번째로 긴 숲으로 알려져 있으며, 시민들에게 주요 휴식 공간으로 사랑받고 있다. ‘한국지명총람’에 따르면 조선 순조 때 흥해 군수 이득강이 장마철 수해를 막기 위해 제방을 쌓고 군민을 동원해 조성한 인공 숲이라는 기록이 전해진다. 이는 북천수 숲이 지역 풍수 형국을 완성하고 방재 기능을 수행한 역사적 가치를 입증한다.
