【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=KT가 자체 보안 강화 서비스로 홍보해온 ‘휴대폰 안심결제’와 ‘ARS 안심인증’ 가입자들마저 최근 초소형 기지국(펨토셀)을 통한 무단 소액결제 해킹 피해에서 예외가 아닌 것으로 드러났다.

사실상 보안 서비스가 제 기능을 하지 못했다는 점에서 소비자 신뢰 추락은 불가피하다는 지적이 나온다.
국회 과학기술정보방송통신위원회 소속 국민의힘 이상휘 의원(포항 남·울릉)이 KT로부터 제출받은 자료에 따르면, 전체 피해자 362명 가운데 유료 휴대폰 안심결제 서비스 가입자 5명이 총 210만7,800원의 피해를 입었다. 무료 ARS 안심인증 서비스 가입자 7명 역시 총 537만2,500원의 피해를 본 것으로 확인됐다.
휴대폰 안심결제 서비스는 매월 990원을 내고 이용하는 유료 부가서비스로, 결제 과정 보안을 강화한다는 점을 내세워왔다. ARS 안심인증 서비스 역시 발신번호와 단말기의 정상 여부를 확인해 해킹을 막는다고 홍보됐다. 하지만 결과적으로 두 서비스 모두 해킹을 차단하지 못한 채 무력화됐다.
이상휘 의원은 “KT가 ‘안심’이라는 단어를 앞세워 홍보했지만, 실제로는 허술한 보안망과 약속 파기만 드러났다”며 “통신사의 존재 이유이자 기본 의무인 국민 보호를 저버린 것”이라고 강하게 비판했다.
이어 “KT는 피해 전수조사와 전액 보상은 물론 정부와 협력한 불법 기지국 근절 대책을 즉시 마련해야 한다”며 “재발 방지를 위한 근본적인 보안 강화 방안을 내놓아야 한다”고 촉구했다.
업계 관계자는 “이용자에게 추가 요금을 받고 제공하는 보안 서비스조차 해킹을 막지 못한 사례는 통신사 보안체계 전반에 심각한 문제를 드러낸 것”이라며 “서비스 신뢰 회복이 쉽지 않을 것”이라고 우려했다.

The ARS Secure Authentication service is also advertised as preventing hacking by verifying the authenticity of the caller ID and the device. However, both services ultimately failed to prevent hacking and were rendered ineffective.
Representative Lee Sang-hwi strongly criticized KT, saying, "While KT promoted itself with the word 'peace of mind,' in reality, only a lax security network and broken promises were revealed." He added, "They have abandoned the fundamental duty of a telecommunications company, which is to protect the public."
He continued, "KT must immediately establish a comprehensive investigation into the damage and provide full compensation, as well as a cooperative plan with the government to eradicate illegal base stations. They must also present fundamental security enhancement measures to prevent recurrence."
An industry insider expressed concern, saying, "The fact that even a security service provided to users for an additional fee failed to prevent hacking reveals serious problems with the telecommunications company's overall security system. Restoring trust in its services will not be easy."
