연합회는 이날 장동혁 당대표에게 출당요구서를 전달하며 “시민 명예를 훼손한 정치인은 더 이상 포항을 대표할 수 없다”고 목소리를 높였다.
참석자들은 김 의원의 이른바 ‘3~5억 매수’ 발언과 영일만횡단대교 예산 불용, 청하면 노인 비하 발언, 통일교 연루 의혹 등을 조목조목 거론하며 “까도 까도 의혹만 나오는 양파 같은 정치 행보”라고 강도 높게 비판했다.
연합회는 “연이은 망언과 예산 불용 사태에도 단 한 차례의 해명이나 사과조차 없었다”며 “출당과 의원직 사퇴가 불가피하다”고 주장했다. 특히 영일만횡단대교 예산 불용에 대해서는 “포항 발전을 가로막은 정치적 외면”이라고 규정하며 사업 정상화를 촉구했다.
또 지역 어르신을 모욕했다는 논란과 통일교 연루 의혹에 대해서도 “시민 자존심을 짓밟은 행위”라고 목소리를 높이며 국민의힘 지도부의 출당 조치와 김 의원의 공개 사죄를 요구했다.
황진일 연합회 회장은 “이번 집회는 특정 정파를 위한 정치적 시위가 아니라 포항의 명예와 미래를 지키기 위한 외침”이라며 “요구가 받아들여지지 않을 경우 ‘보수의 심장’ 포항에서 대규모 탈당운동에 나설 것”이라고 경고했다.
