동해지방해양경찰청(청장 김성종)은 지난 10월 15일 오전 10시께, 포항시 남구 동해면 임곡리 해변에서 주민 신고로 중국산 ‘우롱차’ 포장 형태의 백색 결정체 약 1kg을 발견했다고 20일 밝혔다.
현장 확인 결과, 해당 물질은 ‘우롱차(鐵觀音)’ 제품으로 위장된 밀봉된 백색 결정체 형태였으며, 해경은 이를 즉시 수거해 국립과학수사연구원에 정밀 감식을 의뢰했다. 포장지는 동해해경청 과학수사팀이 지문 등 증거 확보를 위해 별도 감식을 진행 중이다.
해경은 해당 물질이 해상 운송 중 투기되거나 파손된 밀수품이 조류를 따라 해안으로 떠밀려 온 것으로 보고, 주변 해안가 및 수중을 수색했으나 추가 발견물은 없었다고 설명했다.
이번 사건에 대해 해경은 “일상 물품으로 위장한 마약이 해상 교통망을 통해 국내로 반입되려다 발견된 것으로 추정된다”며 “국과수 감정 결과에 따라 수사를 확대할 예정”이라고 밝혔다.
김성종 동해지방해양경찰청장은 “해상 밀수 루트를 차단하고 국민 안전을 지키기 위해 동해안 전 해역의 순찰과 감시를 강화하고 있다”며 “해변이나 어항 주변에서 ‘우롱차’ 포장 형태의 백색 가루나 블록형 물질을 발견할 경우 절대 개봉하거나 손으로 만지지 말고 즉시 해경(112)에 신고해 달라”고 당부했다.
