【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항불교신도연합회(회장 조인호)는 지난 8일 포항시 남구 연일읍 문수사에서 ‘포항시민 화합과 지역경제 회복 기원 대법회’를 열고, 조인호 신임 회장의 취임식을 함께 봉행했다.
이번 법회는 부처님의 자비와 지혜를 통해 포항의 평안과 번영을 기원하고, 지역 불교계의 단합과 새로운 도약을 다짐하기 위해 마련됐다.
행사는 헌향과 헌화, 법문, 축하공연, 취임식 순으로 진행됐으며, 참석자들은 두 손을 모아 포항의 안녕과 지역경제 회복을 기원했다.
이날 법회에는 포항불교사암연합회 회장 덕화 스님을 비롯해 지역 사찰 스님들과 김정재(포항 북구)·이상휘(포항 남구·울릉) 국회의원, 박용선·이동업·서석영·연규식 경북도의원, 다수의 포항시의원 및 불자·시민 등 500여 명이 참석했다. 대한불교조계종 제11교구 본사 불국사 주지 종천 스님은 ‘마음의 평화와 안정’을 주제로 설법하며 시민들에게 위로의 메시지를 전했다.
덕화 스님은 인사말에서 “우리 불교는 덕 높은 스님들과 불자들의 헌신으로 80여 년의 전통을 이어오고 있다”며 “경제적·정신적으로 어려운 시대일수록 시민의 마음을 하나로 모아 함께 극복해야 한다”고 강조했다. 이어 “부처님의 가르침을 실천하며 포항의 안정과 경제 회복을 위해 함께 정진하자”고 당부했다.

조인호 신임 회장은 취임사에서 “포항불교신도연합회가 80년의 역사와 전통을 이어받아 지역 불자들과 함께 부처님의 가르침을 실천하고, 지역사회의 평안과 상생을 이끌겠다”며 “이번 대법회가 시민에게 위로와 희망을 전하는 시작이 되길 바란다”고 말했다.
정치권에서도 축하의 뜻을 전했다. 김정재 국회의원은 “재해와 경기 침체 등 어려운 시기에 시민의 마음을 위로하는 불교의 역할이 크다”며 “조인호 회장님의 취임을 계기로 연합회가 지역 화합의 중심이 되길 바란다”고 전했다.
이상휘 국회의원은 “지금 포항은 철강산업 구조개편과 경제 회복이라는 중대한 전환점에 서 있다”며 “불교의 자비와 지혜가 시민의 마음을 하나로 모으는 큰 힘이 되길 기대한다”고 말했다. 이어 “조 회장님의 취임이 포항불교신도연합회의 새로운 도약이자 지역사회 통합의 밑거름이 되길 기원한다”고 덧붙였다.

The ceremony was attended by approximately 500 people, including Venerable Deokhwa, Chairman of the Pohang Buddhist Temple Association, as well as monks from local temples, National Assembly members Kim Jeongjae (Pohang Buk-gu) and Lee Sang-hui (Pohang Nam-gu, Ulleung), Gyeongbuk Provincial Council members Park Yong-seon, Lee Dong-eop, Seo Seok-yeong, and Yeon Gyu-sik, numerous Pohang City Council members, Buddhists, and citizens. Venerable Jongcheon, the abbot of Bulguksa Temple, the headquarters of the 11th district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, delivered a sermon on "Peace of Mind and Stability" and offered a message of comfort to the citizens.
In his opening remarks, Venerable Deokhwa emphasized, "Our Buddhism has maintained its 80-year tradition through the dedication of virtuous monks and Buddhists. Especially in these difficult economic and spiritual times, we must unite as citizens and overcome them together." He continued, "Let us practice the teachings of Buddha and work together for the stability and economic recovery of Pohang."
In his inaugural address, newly appointed Chairman Cho In-ho stated, “The Pohang Buddhist Association will carry on its 80-year history and tradition, working with local Buddhists to practice the Buddha’s teachings and lead the community to peace and coexistence.” He added, “I hope this grand dharma assembly will be the beginning of a journey of comfort and hope for the citizens.”
Congratulations were also extended from the political community. National Assembly member Kim Jeong-jae said, “Buddhism plays a significant role in comforting citizens during difficult times such as natural disasters and economic downturns,” and added, “I hope Chairman Cho In-ho’s inauguration will serve as a catalyst for regional harmony.”
National Assembly member Lee Sang-hwi stated, “Pohang is currently at a critical turning point in the restructuring of its steel industry and economic recovery. I hope the compassion and wisdom of Buddhism will be a powerful force that unites the hearts of its citizens.” He added, “I hope Chairman Cho’s inauguration will be a new leap forward for the Pohang Buddhist Association and a foundation for community integration.”
