더불어민주당 양기대 전 국회의원은 12월29일 쿠팡 김범석 이사회 의장의 국회 청문회 불출석 통보와 관련해 입장문을 냈다. 이 입장문에서 “김범석 의장은 더 이상 사과문 뒤에 숨지 말고 당당하게 국민 앞에 나서야 한다“고 촉구했다.
양기대 전 의원은 “최근 ‘김범석 현상수배’라는 말이 나돌 정도로 국민적 분노가 확산되고 있다”며 ”쿠팡과 김 의장이 이를 결코 가볍게 봐서는 안된다“고 경고했다. 이어 김범석 의장이 지난 28일 발표한 사과문에 대해서도 “초기 대응과 소통이 부족했다는 형식적인 언급만 있을 뿐 책임 인정도, 재발방지를 위한 구체적 대책이나 보상 방안도 제시하지 않았다”며 면피용에 불과하다고 지적했다.
양기대 전 의원은 개인정보 대규모 유출 사태와 관련해 “3,370만 명의 개인정보 유출은 단순한 기업 사고가 아니라 국민의 일상과 안전을 위협한 사회적 재난”이라며 “그럼에도 불구하고 최고 책임자는 아직까지 국민 앞에 서지 않고 있어 국민을 더욱 분노하게 만들고 있다”고 피력했다. 또한 “쿠팡은 과거 노동자 사망 사건 때도 책임을 분산시키고 형식적인 사과로 일관했다”며 “이번에는 국민 수천만 명의 개인정보가 유출됐음에도 같은 패턴이 반복되고 있다”고 강조했다. 국회 청문회 불출석과 관련해서는 “국회가 공식 출석을 요구하자 ‘글로벌 기업 CEO로서 일정상 곤란하다’는 사유서를 제출하고, 대신 대리인을 내세운 것은 국민을 무시하는 처사”라며 “오는 12월 30~31일 열리는 연석 청문회에도 끝내 불출석을 통보한 것은 책임 회피의 결정판”이라고 했다.
양기대 전 의원은 “김범석 의장은 쿠팡의 창업자이자 최고 의사결정권자로, 성과와 성공의 순간에는 늘 전면에 섰던 인물”이라며 “그러나 책임의 순간이 오자 그 자리는 공백으로 남아 있다”고 말했다. 아울러 “대한민국은 권력이 크다고, 자본이 많다고, 국적이 다르다고 해서 예외를 두는 나라가 아니다”라며 “대규모 로비나 화려한 법무법인, 대관 조직으로 국민 상식을 흔들 수는 없다”고 밝혔다. 입장문의 끝부분에서는 “김 의장은 국민 앞에 직접 나와 사과하고, 최고 책임자로서 책임을 인정하며, 재발 방지를 위한 실질적 대책과 구체적인 보상안을 제시하라”고 덧붙였다.

Former National Assemblyman Yang Ki-dae of the Democratic Party of Korea issued a statement on December 29th regarding Coupang Chairman Kim Beom-seok's notice of non-attendance at the National Assembly hearing. In the statement, he urged, "Chairman Kim Beom-seok should no longer hide behind an apology and confidently stand before the public."
Yang Ki-dae stated, "Public anger is spreading to the point where there's even talk of 'Kim Beom-seok being wanted.'" He warned, "Coupang and Chairman Kim should not take this lightly." He also criticized Chairman Kim's apology released on the 28th, saying, "It only contained perfunctory remarks about inadequate initial response and communication, and did not offer any acknowledgment of responsibility, specific measures to prevent a recurrence, or compensation." He added that it was merely a cover-up.
Regarding the massive personal information leak, former lawmaker Yang Ki-dae stated, "The leak of personal information of 33.7 million people was not a simple corporate accident; it was a social disaster that threatened the daily lives and safety of the people." He added, "Despite this, the person responsible has yet to come forward, further enraging the public." He also emphasized, "Coupang has consistently distributed responsibility and offered perfunctory apologies in past worker deaths. This pattern is repeating itself now, even with the personal information of tens of millions of people leaked." Regarding the failure to appear at the National Assembly hearing, he stated, "When the National Assembly requested an official appearance, Coupang submitted a statement explaining, 'As the CEO of a global company, my schedule is difficult,' and then appointed a representative instead. This is an act of disregard for the public. His final announcement that he will not appear at the joint hearing on December 30th and 31st is the ultimate evasion of responsibility."
Former lawmaker Yang Ki-dae stated, "Chairman Kim Beom-seok is Coupang's founder and top decision-maker, and he has always been at the forefront of moments of achievement and success. However, when the moment of responsibility arrived, that position was left vacant." He added, "South Korea is not a country that makes exceptions just because of greater power, greater capital, or different nationalities. We cannot shake the public's common sense with large-scale lobbying, flashy law firms, or government-sponsored organizations." At the end of his statement, he added, "Chairman Kim must personally come before the public and apologize, accept responsibility as the person responsible, and present practical measures to prevent a recurrence and a specific compensation plan."
