국제법을 가장 잘 지키고 모범적으로 타국에게 보여할 나라가 세계 최강국인 미국이다. 그런데 그런 미국이 국제법을 어겼으니 국제법은 명실상부한 휴지 조각이 되었다. 물론 그 전에도 국제법은 강대국의 이익을 위해 필요에 따라 이용되었다는 논란이 많았지만 이제는 미국의 베네수엘라 침공과 불법 납치로 완전히 휴지 조각이 되었음을 공식적으로 확인한 셈이다.
가장 잘 지키고 모범이 되어야 할 세계 최강국이 저러했으니 세계 각국은 본격적인 각자도생(各自圖生)의 시대가 열렸다. 거의 무법이나 다름없는 국제질서 속에서 약소국은 그들 나름대로 강대국에게 붙어 목숨을 연명해야 하고, 강대국은 약소국이든 중진국이든 자신들의 이익에 맞춰 이용해 먹는 시대가 도래했다고 본다. 이제는 타국의 영토를 잠식하거나, 식민지화 시켜서 직접적으로 통치 및 지배하는 시대가 아니라, 사회, 경제 등등 전반적인 부분을 소유화하여 자국의 이익을 극대화시키는 시대가 열렸다.
이는 굳이 군대를 파병하지 않아도, AI라든지, 각종 온라인들, 힘으로 압박을 통하여 경제적 이득을 얻어내고, 온라인을 이용해 선동질하면서 상대의 혼란을 부추겨 시위와 혁명 등으로 국가 정부와 사회를 뒤집고, 그 안에서 협상을 벌여 국익을 취하는 등의 형태들로 바뀌고 있는 것이다. 군사작전은 점차 소규모로 축소되고, 온라인으로 전 세계 소통하며 AI 등을 이용해 무역, 경제, 금융까지도 무기를 쓸 수 있는 시대가 도래할 것으로 보인다.
더 무서워해야 할 것은 중국의 부상이다. 굳이 국제법을 지켜야 할 필요없이 대만을 먹으면 되고, 미국이 했던 것처럼 일본 총리 관저를 소규모의 대원들로 습격해 다카이치 총리를 체포해도 이제 할 말이 없게 되었다. 미국이 먼저 그 선례(Precedent)를 보여줬으니 중국도 여러 구상들 중에 다양한 옵션들을 추가할 수 있는 여지가 생긴 것이다. 게다가 일본은 핵 보유국이 아니기에 더 용이하게 작전 옵션을 생각할 수 있다. 미국이 국제법을 무시하고 위반한 결과는 앞으로 더 위험할 수 있겠다는 생각을 하게 만든다.
국제법 어쩌구 저쩌구 하지 말라는 말이 많이 보인다. 러시아가 할 때는 국제법을 따지는 자들이 미국이 하니까 국제법 어쩌구 저쩌구 하지 말란다. 참 엄청난 이중성이다. 마두로 잡혀갔다고 좋아하고 베네수엘라 시민들을 응원합니다 그러고들 있는데 당신들은 베네수엘라에 대해 전혀 관심이 없다. 이제 시간이 지나 일주일만 지나면 베네수엘라가 어찌되든 관심 밖이 될 것이다. 당신들이 관심 있는 것은 미국이 하는 행위와 트럼프의 행동, 그리고 미국이 하면 뭐든 좋은 것이라는 인식이다.
곧 있으면 변변치 않은 좌파 대통령이 나와 희망을 잃느니, 그냥 미국의 51번째 주로 합병하자는 매국론적 시각을 가진 자들이 대놓고 떠들 것이다. 이들에게 애국은 별 관심없고 미국에 충성하는 것이 자신들이 살아남는 것이라 생각하기 때문이다.

While there was considerable controversy before that international law was exploited for the benefit of powerful nations, the US invasion of Venezuela and its illegal kidnapping have now officially confirmed its utter obsolescence.
With the world's most powerful nation, which should most faithfully uphold and serve as a model, acting in this manner, an era of "everyone for themselves" (everyone for themselves) has begun. In this near-lawless international order, weaker nations are forced to cling to the powerful to survive, while powerful nations exploit both weaker and middle-income nations for their own gain. Now is not an era of encroaching on foreign territories or colonizing them to directly rule and control them. Instead, an era has begun where countries maximize their own interests by owning all aspects of society, economy, and other aspects.
This era is shifting to encompass various forms of power, such as securing economic gains through AI and various online platforms, without the need to deploy troops. It also involves leveraging online platforms to incite chaos in opponents, instigating protests and revolutions to overthrow national governments and societies, and negotiating within these platforms to secure national interests. Military operations are gradually being scaled back to smaller scales, and an era is approaching where global communication online, along with AI, can be used to weaponize trade, the economy, and even finance.
What is even more frightening is the rise of China. They can simply conquer Taiwan without having to abide by international law. They can even, as the US did, raid the Japanese Prime Minister's residence with a small force and arrest Prime Minister Takaichi, leaving them with no recourse. Since the US has set the precedent, China now has the leeway to add various options to its arsenal. Moreover, because Japan doesn't possess nuclear weapons, it can more easily consider operational options. The consequences of the US ignoring and violating international law are likely to be even more dangerous in the future.
There's a lot of talk about not arguing about international law. When Russia acts, those who adhere to international law say, "Don't arguing about international law because the US is doing it." This is truly utter hypocrisy. You rejoice that Maduro has been captured and support the Venezuelan people, yet you don't care about Venezuela at all. In just a week, whatever happens in Venezuela will be irrelevant. You care about what the US does, Trump's actions, and the perception that anything the US does is good.
Soon, a mediocre leftist president will emerge, and those with treasonous views will openly advocate annexing the US as the 51st state rather than losing hope. This is because they don't care much about patriotism and believe loyalty to the US is their only means of survival.
