이재명 대통령은 툭하면 재벌총수를 불러 모아 간담회를 한다. 벌써 12번째라고 한다. 또 빈번한 해외방문 때 재벌총수들을 수행토록 한다. 이때는 그 바쁜 총수들이 며칠씩 시간을 허비해야 한다. 참, 기이한 현상이다. 세계 어느 나라 대기업총수가 대통령 또는 총리의 정책파트너가 되어 수시로 모여 협의를 하는지 모르겠다. 또 한국을 방문하는 외국 정상들이 요란하게 대기업총수를 대동하고 오는 것을 보지 못했다.
우리나라 재벌은 선진국 대기업 총수와 성격이 다르다. 가문 중심의 경제 집단이고 경영권을 상속한다. 기업의 소유와 경영이 분리되지 않은 탓이다. 재벌그룹 내의 각 기업에 법적인 대표가 따로 있지만, 그룹총수가 사실상 모든 기업을 지배한다. 총수인 재벌회장은 법적으로 대표도 아니다.
재벌은 우리 경제성장을 주도해 온 주역이다. 공도 크지만 부작용도 만만치 않다. 막대한 비자금으로 정경유착 등 부패의 온상으로 지탄받았다. 또 수직적 구조로 중소협력업체에 대한 희생을 강요해 왔다. 지금은 많이 개선되었다고 하지만, 갈길은 멀다.
그래서 과거 대통령들은 재벌총수와의 만남을 경계해 왔다. 또 많은 비난의 대상이 재벌이다. 집행하는 자와 집행의 대상 사이에는 긴장이 흐를 수밖에 없다. 서로 사통(私通)하는 사이라면 공정한 집행이 불가능하기 때문이다.
재벌총수들이 처음에는 서먹서먹하고 불편했을 것이다. 그러나 계속 만나다 보면, 대통령과 총수들이 허물없이 친밀한 관계로 발전할 가능성이 크다.. 여기에서 정경유착이 시작되고 경제정책은 공정성을 잃게 된다.
이재명 대통령은 난데없이 정교분리를 외쳤다. 통일교, 신천지 그리고 자기에게 반대하는 기독교 교회를 향해 해산시키겠다고 거침없이 협박한다. 종교 인사나 종교단체도 실정법을 위반하면 처벌받아야 한다. 그것은 정교분리와는 아무 상관이 없는 문제다.
