이재명 대통령이 20일(현지시간) "인도 역동성을 새 돛으로 삼아 현 교역 규모를 2배 이상 확대해나가야 한다"고 했다.
청와대에 따르면 이 대통령은 이날 오후 인도 뉴델리 바랏 만다팜 센터에서 열린 한·인도 비즈니스 포럼에 참석 후 모두 발언에서 "14억 인구 기반의 세계 최대 시장·세계 4위 경제 규모를 가진 인도는 이제 글로벌 경제 새 중심축으로 확고히 자리매김하고 있다"며 이같이 밝혔다.
그러면서 "한·인도 관계는 새 도약 전기를 맞고 있는 동시에 글로벌 공급망 재편·디지털 전환·기후 위기 등 공동 대응해야 할 과제도 늘고 있다"며 "더 이상 과거 방식에 머무르지 않고 보다 진화한 협력 틀을 만들어가야 할 시점"이라고 했다.
또 "현재 양국 교역 규모는 인도의 거대 경제 규모에 비해 아직 충분치 않은 수준"이라며 "그러나 이는 곧 앞으로의 성장·협력·투자 가능성이 크다는 의미기도 해 교역·투자 협력을 한층 확대해야 한다"고 했다.
이어 "첨단산업 협력을 통해 미래를 함께 준비해야 한다"며 "세계적 수준인 인도 AI(인공지능)·소프트웨어 역량과 한국 반도체·배터리·자동차·조선 등 제조 경쟁력이 결합 시 양국은 막대한 시너지를 낼 수 있을 것"이라고 했다.
더불어 "특히 조선 분야 협력은 산업 협력 새 출발점이 될 것"이라며 "조선소 건립 추진 MOU 체결을 시작으로 다양한 분야 협력을 펼칠 수 있길 기대한다"고 했다.
이 대통령은 "경제 협력이 함께 항해하는 배라면 문화 교류는 그 배를 앞으로 나아가게 하는 동력과 같다"며 "앞으로도 교류 영역을 확장하면서 더 많은 파사석탑을 쌓아가길 기대한다"고 했다.
