mbc는 10월29일자 “김종인 '내년 대선은 이재명 대 윤석열'‥洪(홍준표) '또 한명의 도사 나왔네'” 제하의 기사에, 최근 정가의 재미난 뉴스를 담았다. 김종인 대한발전전략연구원 이사장이 차기 대선을 예단했는데 이와 관련해서 파생된 말들을 정리한 기사였다.
mbc는 이 기사에서 “김종인 국민의힘 전 비상대책위원장이 '내년 대선은 이재명 민주당 후보 대 윤석열 후보의 경쟁이 될 거라 생각한다'고 밝혔습니다.”라고 소개하고 “김종인 전 위원장은 또 홍준표 후보 측에서 윤 후보의 2030 지지율이 낮다고 공세를 펴는 것에 대해서는 '최종적인 결론을 봐야지 그 자체로는 크게 의미가 없다'고 말했습니다”고 전했다. 이어 “홍준표 국민의힘 예비후보는 취재진과 만나 '또 한명의 도사가 나왔다'고 비꼬면서 그건 김 전 위원장의 바람일 뿐이라고 일축했습니다”고 알렸다.
국민의힘 당내 대통령 후보를 선출하는 직전의 아슬아슬한 순간이다. 위 같은 정치인들의 말들은 제1야당의 유력 대통령 후보를 둘러싼 말싸움일 수도 있다.
그런데 김종인의 발언대로 되는지는 두고 봐야 한다. 하지만 그의 무게감 때문에 그의 말에 관심이 쏠리는 형국이다. 김종인 대한발전전략연구원 이사장은 5선 의원(제11•12•14•17•20대)이었으며, 전 국민의힘 비상대책위원회 위원장이었다. 지난 국회의원 선거 당시 국민의힘에서 총괄선거대책위원장을 맡았었다. 그만큼 정치를 잘 알고 있는 정치인인 셈.
김종인의 “내년 대선은 이재명 민주당 후보 대 윤석열 후보의 경쟁이 될 거라 생각한다“는 발언의 의미는 몇 가지로 해석할 수 있다. ▲김종인이 윤석열을 지지하고 있다는 직접 표현일 수 있고 ▲그 반대로 윤석열이 위험하니 그에게 표를 몰아다 주는 측면도 있으며 ▲홍준표를 지지하지 않는다는 공개적인 의사 표현 등일 수 있다. 김종인의 정치 예단이 맞을는지, 아니면 빗나갈는지? 그의 발언으로 누가 이득을 보는지는 지켜볼 일이다.
여권 후보 이재명, 야권 후보 윤석열의 대결이 될지의 판단은 아직 이르다. 김종인의 예단 발언이 윤석열의 열세를 만회하게 위한 의도적인 발언이라 한다면, 이재명 대(對) 홍준표은 대결로 굳어질 가능성도 있어 보인다.

이에 대해 오풍연 정치평론가는 29일자 페이스북에 올린 글에서 미묘한 이 문제를 다뤘다, 그는 “이재명의 상대는 누가 될까. 윤석열이냐, 홍준표냐. 참 점치기 어렵다. 민주당 안에서도 홍준표를 경계해야 한다는 목소리가 나온단다. 그동안 홍준표는 경계 대상으로 간주하지 않았던 게 사실이다. 그러나 최근 들어 여론조사에서도 홍준표의 상승세가 드러나자 분위기가 바뀌었다는 전언이다. 홍준표 가능성도 있다는 뜻이다. 김종인 전 비대위원장은 윤석열 대 이재명 대결을 내다보았다. 거기에는 홍준표를 싫어하는 김종인의 본심이 깔렸다고도 하겠다”고 설명하고 “나도 윤석열의 우세를 점치긴 한다. 하지만 정치는 알 수 없다. 막판에 확 바뀔 수도 있기 때문이다. 피 말리는 싸움은 진행형”이라고 결론지었다.
