문재인 대통령은 1월3일, 2022년 신년사를 발표했다. 임기 5년 가운데 마지막 신년사인 셈이다. 올해 대통령의 신년사 가운데 필자가 주목하는 부분은 '평화'를 언급한 부분이다.
문재인 대통령은 신년사에서 “출범 당시 일촉즉발의 전쟁 위기 상황 속에서 대화의 물꼬를 트고 평화의 길을 만들어나갔다. 아직 미완의 평화이고 때로는 긴장이 조성되기도 하지만, 한반도 상황은 어느 때보다 안정적으로 관리되고 있다. 분단국가이고 전쟁을 겪은 우리에게 평화보다 소중한 가치는 없다. 평화는 번영을 위한 필수불가결한 전제이다. 하지만 평화는 제도화되지 않으면 흔들리기 쉽다. 마지막까지 최선을 다하겠다”고 강조하고 “우리가 주도해 나간 남북대화와 북미대화에 의해 지금의 평화가 어렵게 만들어지고 지탱되어 왔다는 사실을 잊어서는 안 된다. 평화는 튼튼한 안보 위에서 가능하다. 우리 정부는 대화와 함께 역대 어느 정부보다 국방력을 튼튼히 했다. 그 결과, 종합 군사력 세계 6위로 평가되는 강한 방위 능력을 갖추게 되었다”고 피력했다.
