최민호 세종시장은 15일 2027년 열리는 '하계세계대학경기대회‘시설을 갖추기 위해 대평동 주경기장, 보조경기장, 실내체육관 등을 건설하겠다고 밝혔다.
최 시장은 이날 " ’2027 하계세계대학경기대회‘ 유치 성공 관련 기자회견을 갖고' 2027년 성공적인 대회 개최를 위해 빈틈없는 대회 준비에 나서겠다"며 이같이 말했다.
최 시장은 "이번 대회 유치로 미래전략수도 세종은 또 다른 기회와 무한한 가능성을 부여받았다"며"체육기반시설 확대와 지역경제 활성화를 위한 계기로 삼겠다"고 강조했다.
이를 위해 "대회의 거점시설이 될 ’대평동 종합체육시설‘ 조성을 위해, 내년 초 예비타당성조사 면제 절차를 이행하고, 하반기부터 본격적인 설계에 착수할 수 있도록 행정중심복합도시건설청과 추진해 나가겠다"고 설명했다.
"대회 기간 중 5생활권에 선수촌을 마련해 지역경제활성화를 꾀하겠다"는 약속도 했다.
전 세계 선수단 1만 5,000여 명을 수용하기 위해서는 5생활권 LH 임대아파트를 선수촌으로 활용 운영한다는 복안이다.
다만 최 시장은" 선수촌 운영은 LH와 지속적인 협의가 필요한 사항"이라며 "건축시기 등을 종합적으로 검토, 추진해 선수촌 운영에 차질이 없도록 하겠다"고 말을 아꼈다.
특히 "교통, 숙박, 관광 등 지역경제활성화와 연계할 수 있는 방안을 마련하고 대회 준비를 위한 특별전담조직을 구성해, 2027하계세계대학경기대회 개최 조직위원회에 적극 협조하겠다"고 했다.
한편 ,한국스포츠정책과학원이 2020년 발표한 자료에 따르면 하계세계대학경기대회 개최로 얻는 경제적효과는 2조 7,289억 원이다. 취업유발효과 또한 1만 499명에 달할 것으로 전망했다.
