[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창원특례시는 시설관리공단 직영 노외공영주차장 6개소에 대해 일요일·공휴일 유료 운영을 2023년 1월 1일부터 시행 예정이다고 22일 밝혔다.
시는 무인주차관제시스템 도입등 행정환경의 변화를 반영하고 공영주차장의 효율적 관리를 위해 「창원시 공영유료주차장 관리 규정」을 폐지하고 「창원시 공영유료주차장 관리 규칙」을 제정하여 근거를 마련했다.
일·공휴일 유료화 전환 주차장은 ?창원종합버스터미널 ?명서상업지구 ?팔용 파출소 옆 ?상남 제1공영 ?상남 제2공영 ?내동 파출소 옆 등 6개소다.
무료 운영으로 상업지역 내 장기주차하는 차량의 도심 주차난 해소에 지적을 받아 온 사항에 대해서도 주차공간 확보로 주차장을 이용하는데 긍정적인 효과를 기대한다.
하지만, 이를 반대하는 시민들의 반대 여론도 적지 않아 앞으로 난항이 예상된다.
조일암 안전교통건설국장은 “주차공간을 보다 효율적으로 운영하여 시민들이 공영주차장을 상시 이용하는데 불편함이 없도록 당부하며, 거주지 소규모 주차장 조성사업 등을 적극 추진하여 주차 편의 증진에 기여하겠다”고 밝혔다.
권성현 창원시의회 건설해양농림위원장은 “공영주차장 유료화 시행은 지난 허성무 시정에서 결정한 사항이라 이를 반대하는 것은, 지난 시장의 공적을 반대하는 것으로 보일 수 있어 쉽게 결정할 사항은 아니다. 하지만 시민의 편의를 위해 어떤 결정을 내려야 할 것인지에 대해서는 이를 지켜본 뒤 시와 상의해 결정하도록 하겠다”고 밝혔다.
