세종시 조치원비행장의 비행안전구역이 대폭 축소될 전망이다.
13일 세종시에 따르면 연서면 월하리에 위치한 조치원비행장을 지원항공 작전기지에서 헬기전용 작전기지로 변경하는 ‘군사기지 및 군사시설 보호법 시행령 개정안’이 국방부에서 입법예고 됐다고 밝혔다.
조치원비행장은 1972년 설치된 이후 50년 넘게 고정익 항공기 등을 운용할 수 있는 지원항공 작전기지로 운영돼 왔다.
이로 인해 작전기지 주변 조치원읍, 연서·연동면 일원 약16.2㎢(490만 평)는 비행안전구역으로 지정돼 있다.
때문에 해당 구역 내 건축할 수 있는 건축물 높이가 제한되는 등 주민들이 재산권 침해를 겪으면서 비행안전구역 해제를 요청하는 민원이 끊이지 않았다.
시는 이번 기지종류 변경으로 조치원비행장 주변 비행안전구역 16.2㎢중 약 85%가량이 축소될 수 있을 것으로 전망하고 있다.
지난 50여 년간 이어져 온 조치원읍, 연서·연동면 일원 주민 재산권 침해 문제를 상당부분 해소할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
시는 국방부의 비행안전구역 변경 절차에 적극 협조해 빠른 시일 내 인근 주민들이 실질적인 혜택을 체감할 수 있도록 조치할 계획이다.
또 조치원·연기비행장 통합 이전사업을 계획기간 내에 마무리해 비행장에 따른 시민 불편이 최소화될 수 있도록 행정력을 집중할 계획이다.
