충남 보령시 미산면에서 부여군 구룡면 주정리까지 연결하는 보령~부여간 확포장공사가 7년만에 마무리됐다.
대전국토관리청은 이를 기념하기 위한 준공식을 27일 갖고 전면 통행에 들어간다고 밝혔다.
이번에 준공되는 구간은 길이 14. 76km 폭 19.5m, 왕복 4차선으로 조성됐으며, 총사업비는 2,300억 원이 투입됐다.
그동안 이 도로는 논산, 부여 등 충남 중남부지역에서 보령을 연결하는 유일한 국도임에도 선형이 불량하고 협소해 교통사고 위험성을 높여왔다.
또, 대천해수욕장과 성주계곡 등을 찾는 피서객 급증에 따른 교통정체 해소와 관광 활성화, 국도의 간선기능 강화를 위해 도로 확장의 필요성이 지속적으로 제기돼왔다.
이에 대전국토청은 지난 2016년 12월 착공에 나서 7년만에 확장 개통하게 됐다.
이 구간 확장으로 대천~원산도~태안반도로 이어지는 서해안 관광벨트와 백제문화권이 연계돼 지역 간 균형발전이 가속화될 것이라는 게 대전청의 설명이다.
또 “ 충남 중남부지역에서 보령을 이용하는 차량의 접근성이 개선됨에 따라 쾌적한 도로 환경을 제공할 수 있을 것"으로 기대했다.
한편, 27일 열리는 준공식에는 대전국토청 방윤석 청장, 박정현 부여군수, 지역주민 등 100여 명이 참석할 것으로 알려졌다.
