고양특례시는 지난 17일 서울프레스센터 국제회의장에서 열린‘2024 글로벌 도시브랜드 대상’에서 도시전시축제 부문 대상을 수상했다.
시는 작년 도시브랜드마케팅 부문 대상에 이어 2년 연속 수상을 하는 영예를 안았다.
㈜시사저널이 주관하는 ‘글로벌 도시브랜드 대상’은 글로벌 시대 지속가능한 브랜드로 국가 관광산업에 이바지하고 세계적 도시브랜드로서의 가치 공유 등 각고의 노력을 해온 도시에 수여하는 상이다.
고양특례시는 △세계도시포럼의 성공적 개최 △2025 세계지방정부연합 아태지부(UCLG ASPAC) 총회 유치 △경제자유구역 지정 추진 △고양국제꽃박람회, 고양호수예술축제 개최 등 타 지자체와는 차별화된 도시브랜드 가치 제고를 위한 노력을 인정받아 대상을 수상했다.

시는 <도시를 강화하고 미래를 지속시키다: 혁신과 연대>라는 주제로 세계 석학들과 함께 도시 미래상을 모색하는‘2024 세계도시포럼’을 준비 중에 있으며‘세계지방정부연합 아태지부(UCLG ASPAC) 총회’와 같은 행사를 유치함으로써 국제도시로서 위상을 높이고 있다.
또한 경제자유구역 지정을 통해 시민이 행복한 글로벌 자족도시, 활력이 넘치는 경제특례시로 거듭나기 위해 해외 기업들을 대상으로 고양시 홍보에도 힘쓰고 있다.
지난 15일 시는 베트남 농업무역촉진센터, 메콩과학기술교육응용연구소 등과 업무협약을 맺기도 했다.
시 관계자는 “앞으로도 국제적 경쟁력 향상과 지속가능한 개발을 바탕으로 시민들에게 더 나은 삶의 질을 제공하고 고양특례시의 브랜드 가치를 더욱 제고하겠다”라고 밝혔다.
한편 영국 방송공사 BBC에서는 글로벌 마이스목적지 지속가능성 지수(GDS-I) 평가에서 세계 14위‘아시아·태평양 지역 1위’에 오르며 비유럽권 도시 중 독보적인 평가를 받고 있는 고양시를 소개하며‘세상을 더 나은 곳으로 만드는 뛰어난 5개 도시’중 한 곳이라고 설명한 바 있다.[고양=박정호 기자]
