【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스(총장 류완하)는 지난 12일 교내 백주년기념관 대강당에서 훈 센 캄보디아 상원의장에게 명예철학박사 학위를 수여했다고 13일 밝혔다.

훈 센 의장은 한국-캄보디아 불교 협력에 기여하고 동국대학교와 캄보디아간 문화, 학문 교류 및 유학생 유치에 기여한 공로를 인정받아 이번 명예박사 학위를 받았다.
이날 행사에는 학교법인 동국대학교 이사장 돈관스님, 동국대학교 윤재웅 총장, 동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스 류완하 총장, 캄보디아 OUCH Borith 상원부의장, 경상북도 환동해지역본부 이영석 본부장 등 많은 인사들이 참석해 축하의 인사를 전했다.
훈 센 상원의장은 ▲캄보디아 대량 학살 정권 해방 운동 리더(1977) ▲부총리 겸 외무부장관(1981-1985) ▲캄보디아 총리(1985-2023) ▲캄보디아 인민당(CPP) 총재(1991-2024) 등을 역임하였고, ▲세계평화아카데미, 세계평화상(1996), ▲ASEAN 언론연합, 평화발전상(2016), ▲아시아태평양전략연구소(KSI) “아세안-중국 관계 강화” 세계 지도자 평생공로상(2022)을 수상하였다.
동국대학교 윤재웅 총장은 “평화와 번영의 지도자인 훈 센 의장님께 우리 대학에서 명예박사 학위를 수여하게 된 것을 기쁘게 생각하고, 캄보디아와 동국대학교는 불교라는 특별한 인연으로 든든한 동반자가 될 것이라”고 밝혔다.
학교법인 동국대학교 이사장 돈관스님은 “캄보디아 국가와 국민을 위해 진력하시고, 현재 상원의장으로 헌신하시는 훈 센 전 총리의 동국대학교 명예박사학위 수여식을 진심으로 축하하고 오늘의 소중한 인연을 통해 한국과 캄보디아가 협력을 더욱 활성화하고 또한 동국대학교와 캄보디아 유학생 상호 교환을 통한 학술교류의 증진, 특히 불교학의 공동연구가 활발하게 이루어지기를 바란다”고 밝혔다.
동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스 류완하 총장은 “세계 평화와 불교 발전에 지대한 공헌을 해 오신 훈 센 상원의장님께 명예 철학박사학위를 수여하게 되어 매우 기쁘게 생각하고, 동국대학교 와이즈캠퍼스는 이러한 특별한 인연을 바탕으로 캄보디아 대학들과 학문과 문화교류를 확대해 나갈 것이다라”고 말했다.

Dongguk University WISE Campus Awarded Honorary Doctorate to Cambodian Senate Chairman Hun Sen
Dongguk University WISE Campus (President Ryu Wan-ha) announced on the 13th that it awarded an honorary doctorate in philosophy to Cambodian Senate Chairman Hun Sen at the main auditorium of the Centennial Memorial Hall on the 12th.

Senate Chairman Hun Sen served as ▲Leader of the Movement to Liberate the Cambodian Genocide Regime (1977), ▲Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs (1981-1985), ▲Prime Minister of Cambodia (1985-2023), ▲President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) (1991-2024), and was awarded the ▲World Peace Academy, World Peace Prize (1996), ▲ASEAN Media Association, Peace and Development Prize (2016), and ▲KSI Asia-Pacific Institute for Strategic Studies (KSI) “Strengthening ASEAN-China Relations” World Leader Lifetime Achievement Award (2022).
Dongguk University President Jae-woong Yoon said, “I am delighted to award Chairman Hun Sen, a leader of peace and prosperity, an honorary doctorate from our university, and Cambodia and Dongguk University will become strong partners through their special bond of Buddhism.”
Dongguk University Board of Trustees Chairman Don Gwan Seunim said, “I sincerely congratulate former Prime Minister Hun Sen, who has devoted his life to the Cambodian nation and people and is currently serving as the Chairman of the Senate, on receiving an honorary doctorate from Dongguk University. I hope that through today’s precious relationship, Korea and Cambodia will further activate cooperation and promote academic exchanges through mutual exchanges between Dongguk University and Cambodian students, especially joint research in Buddhist studies.”
Dongguk University WISE Campus President Ryu Wan-ha said, “I am very pleased to be awarding an honorary doctorate to Chairman of the Senate Hun Sen, who has made a great contribution to world peace and the development of Buddhism. Dongguk University WISE Campus will continue to expand academic and cultural exchanges with Cambodian universities based on this special relationship.”
Senate Chairman Hun Sen said, “I think today’s event is very meaningful because it recognizes his contribution of devoting his entire life to peace in Cambodia. I would like to dedicate today’s achievement to all Cambodian people and the soldiers who sacrificed themselves for the independence and peace of the country. “I hope that this will be an opportunity for young people around the world to awaken to the value of peace, realize the dangers of war, and strive for peace, development, and maintenance of existing peace,” he said.
