인터넷 신문 ‘비즈한국’은 지난 3월7일자 “김상열 호반그룹 전 회장, 모친 유산 둘러싸고 형제간 소송전” 제목이 기사에서 “호반그룹 총수인 김상열 전 회장 형제들이 최근 호반건설과 김 전 회장을 상대로 유류분 반환 청구 소송을 제기한 것으로 비즈한국 취재 결과 확인됐다. 지난해 작고한 김 전 회장 모친이 생전에 보유하던 호반건설 주식과 부동산 재산의 유류분을 돌려달라는 취지”라고 보도했다.
이어 “법조계에 따르면, 김상열 전 회장 형 A 씨와 여동생 B 씨가 지난달 김 전 회장과 호반건설을 상대로 유류분 반환 청구 소송을 제기했다. 지난해 2월 세상을 떠난 어머니 고(故) 백채남 씨가 생전에 보유하던 주식과 부동산 재산의 유류분을 돌려달라는 취지다. 앞서 남동생 C 씨도 지난해 5월 김 전 회장과 호반건설을 상대로 같은 취지의 소송을 냈다.”고 전했다.
한편 이 신문은 “김상열 전 회장은 호반그룹 창업주다. 1989년 호반을 설립해 건설업에 뛰어든 이후 공공택지 개발 사업을 중심으로 사세를 키워 재계 34위(지난해 기준 자산 16조 원) 기업집단으로 일궜다. 현대파이낸스를 설립해 금융업에 진출하는 것은 물론 공격적인 인수 합병으로 제조, 레저, 유통, 미디어 등으로 사업 영역을 확대했다.”고 덧붙였다.
‘Biz Korea’ Reports, “Former Hoban Group Chairman Kim Sang-yeol, Sibling Lawsuit Over Mother’s Inheritance”

On March 7, the Internet newspaper ‘Biz Korea’ reported in an article titled “Former Hoban Group Chairman Kim Sang-yeol, Sibling Lawsuit Over Mother’s Inheritance” that “Biz Korea has confirmed that the brothers of former Hoban Group Chairman Kim Sang-yeol recently filed a lawsuit against Hoban Construction and former Chairman Kim for the return of the reserved portion. They are seeking the return of the reserved portion of Hoban Construction stocks and real estate assets that former Chairman Kim’s mother, who passed away last year, owned while she was alive.” It continued, “According to the legal community, former Chairman Kim Sang-yeol’s older brother A and younger sister B filed a lawsuit last month against former Chairman Kim and Hoban Construction for the return of the reserved portion. They are seeking the return of the reserved portion of the stocks and real estate assets that their late mother Baek Chae-nam held while she was alive. His younger brother C also filed a lawsuit with the same intent against former Chairman Kim and Hoban Construction in May of last year.” Meanwhile, the newspaper added, “Former Chairman Kim Sang-yeol is the founder of Hoban Group. After establishing Hoban in 1989 and jumping into the construction industry, he grew the company by focusing on public land development projects, making it the 34th largest conglomerate in the business world (with assets of 16 trillion won as of last year). He entered the financial industry by establishing Hyundai Finance, and expanded his business areas to manufacturing, leisure, distribution, and media through aggressive M&A.”
