이스라엘·이란 간 무력충돌이 4일째 이어지며 전쟁 격화 상황 속 미군이 F-35를 비롯 전투기들을 중동에 추가 배치 중인 것으로 전해졌다.
17일(현지시간) 영국 '로이터 통신'에 따르면 미군 당국자는 F-16·F-22·F-35 등 전투기·여타 군용기 등을 중동에 추가 배치하는 등 중동 지역에서 미군 군사력을 증강하고 있다고 밝혔다.
또 '로이터통신'은 미군 당국자들이 이번 전투기 등 증강 배치가 이란 드론·미사일 등 요격 같은 방어적 성격임을 강조했다고 보도했다.
앞서 전날 외신은 미군이 항공모함 니미츠호의 베트남 입항 계획을 취소 후 중동으로 전개 중인데 이어 31대 이상 공중급유기도 중동 쪽으로 이동시키고 있다고 보도한 바 있다.
