[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 제20회를 맞은 아시아콘텐츠&필름마켓(ACFM)이 아시아 다큐멘터리 창작자들을 위한 새로운 네트워킹 프로그램 ‘독스퀘어(Doc Square)’를 오는 9월 부산에서 첫 선보인다.
제작자부터 영화제 관계자, 배급사까지 아시아 다큐멘터리 산업 전반의 교류를 촉진할 본 행사는, 산업 생태계 확장을 위한 실질적인 교류의 장이 될 전망이다.
독스퀘어, 아시아 다큐멘터리 산업 위한 교류 플랫폼으로 첫 출범
독스퀘어는 다큐멘터리 창작자뿐만 아니라 영화제 프로그래머, 배급사 등 업계 관계자들이 한자리에 모여 네트워크를 형성하고 협업 기회를 모색할 수 있도록 기획된 맞춤형 플랫폼이다. 이 프로그램은 아시아 다큐멘터리의 제작 및 유통 확대를 위한 정보 공유와 협력 기회를 제공할 예정이다.
총 7개 프로그램으로 구성…WIP 쇼케이스 등 다채로운 구성
독스퀘어는 총 7개의 프로그램으로 구성된다. 핵심 프로그램인 ‘다큐멘터리 WIP 쇼케이스’에서는 제작 중인 아시아 다큐멘터리 프로젝트들이 소개된다. 대만의 타이완독스, 필리핀영화발전위원회, 인도네시아의 독스바이더씨, 한국의 아시아영화펀드(ACF) 산하 AND(Asian Network of Documentary)펀드 등 각국 기관의 추천을 받은 총 13편의 WIP(Work in Progress) 단계 작품이 피칭 세션에 참여한다.
해당 세션은 국내외 영화제 및 배급사 관계자들과의 네트워킹을 통해 프로젝트의 완성도를 높이고, 향후 상영 및 유통 기회를 확대하는 것을 목표로 한다.
세계 주요 영화제 프로그래머 참여…‘다큐멘터리 페스티벌 토크’ 개최
독스퀘어에서는 글로벌 다큐멘터리 영화제 관계자들과 함께하는 ‘다큐멘터리 페스티벌 토크’도 진행된다. 선댄스영화제, 코펜하겐국제다큐멘터리영화제(CPH:DOX), 핫독스국제다큐멘터리영화제, 셰필드국제다큐멘터리영화제 등 세계 주요 영화제의 프로그래머 및 컨설턴트들이 참석해 각 영화제의 최신 동향과 아시아 다큐멘터리에 대한 평가 및 관점을 공유할 예정이다.
한국 다큐멘터리 담론 확장 위한 포럼도 열려
이와 함께 영화진흥위원회 창작제작팀이 주최하고 전주국제영화제에서 진행된 세미나 ‘다큐멘터리는 우리에게 무엇이었나?’의 후속 포럼으로, ‘한국다큐멘터리영화포럼(가제)’도 개최된다. 이 포럼은 한국 다큐멘터리의 과거와 현재를 돌아보고, 미래를 위한 정책 및 제작 환경 개선 방안을 논의하는 자리가 될 전망이다.
제작 현황 공유 및 해외 창작자 참여 세션 운영
프로그램에는 아시아 각국의 프로듀서들이 자국의 제작 환경과 동향을 공유하는 ‘프로듀서 토크(가제)’, 아카데미상 다큐멘터리 부문 후보작 감독 및 프로듀서와 함께하는 특별 토크 세션도 포함된다. 또한 ACF AND펀드 선정작들의 제작 현황을 공유하는 ‘AND 토크&셰어’ 프로그램도 함께 진행돼, 참가자들에게 실제적인 정보와 교류 기회를 제공할 예정이다.
이번 독스퀘어는 오는 9월 20일(토)부터 22일(월)까지 3일간 부산 벡스코 제2전시장에서 개최된다. 아시아 다큐멘터리 창작자들의 실질적인 네트워킹 기회를 제공하고, 산업의 지속가능한 발전을 위한 출발점이 될 것으로 기대를 모은다.

Designed to foster industry-wide exchange among creators, film festival representatives, and distributors, this event is expected to serve as a practical platform for expanding the ecosystem of the Asian documentary industry.
Doc Square: A New Platform for Asian Documentary Industry Exchange
Doc Square is a customized platform bringing together not only documentary creators but also industry stakeholders such as festival programmers and distributors. It aims to build networks and facilitate collaboration opportunities. The program will provide a space for sharing information and forming partnerships to promote the production and distribution of Asian documentaries.
Seven Diverse Programs Including a WIP Showcase
Doc Square consists of seven programs. Its centerpiece, the Documentary Work-in-Progress (WIP) Showcase, will present in-progress documentary projects from Asia. A total of 13 WIP projects recommended by institutions such as Taiwan Docs, the Film Development Council of the Philippines, Docs by the Sea (Indonesia), and Korea’s Asian Cinema Fund (ACF) under its AND (Asian Network of Documentary) Fund, will participate in pitching sessions.
These sessions aim to improve the quality of the projects through networking with local and international film festival and distribution representatives and to expand future screening and distribution opportunities.
‘Documentary Festival Talk’ with Global Film Festival Programmers
Doc Square will also host a ‘Documentary Festival Talk’ featuring programmers and consultants from major global documentary film festivals, such as Sundance Film Festival, CPH:DOX (Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival), Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, and Sheffield DocFest. These experts will share the latest trends in their respective festivals and discuss their perspectives on Asian documentaries.
Forum to Expand Discourse on Korean Documentaries
In continuation of the seminar “What Have Documentaries Meant to Us?” organized by the Korean Film Council and held at the Jeonju International Film Festival, a follow-up forum tentatively titled “Korean Documentary Film Forum” will be held. This forum will reflect on the past and present of Korean documentaries and discuss policies and production environment improvements for the future.
Sessions on Production Status and International Collaboration
Other key sessions include the tentatively titled ‘Producer Talk,’ where producers from various Asian countries will share insights on their local production landscapes and trends. A special talk session will also feature directors and producers of Academy Award-nominated documentaries.
Additionally, a session called ‘AND Talk & Share’ will offer updates on selected projects from the ACF AND Fund, providing participants with practical information and valuable networking opportunities.
Doc Square will take place from Saturday, September 20 to Monday, September 22 at BEXCO Exhibition Center 2 in Busan. The event is expected to offer meaningful networking opportunities for Asian documentary creators and serve as a launchpad for the industry’s sustainable growth.
