부산시, ‘제8회 일본군 위안부 피해자 기림의 날' 기념행사 개최

[브레이크뉴스=-배종태 기자] 부산시는 ‘2025년 제8회 일본군 위안부 피해자 기림의 날 기념행사’를 오는 14일 오후 2시 부산시민회관 소극장에서개최한다고 밝혔다.

이번 행사는 일본군 위안부 피해자를 기억하고 역사의 교훈을 되새기기 위한 취지로 마련됐다. 행사는 부산시가 주최하고 (사)부산광역시여성단체협의회가 주관하며, 시민과 유관기관 관계자 등 약 200여 명이 참석할 예정이다.

정부는 1991년 8월 14일 일본군 위안부 피해자인 고(故) 김학순 할머니가 처음으로 피해 사실을 공개 증언한 날을 기리기 위해, 2017년 12월 ‘기림의 날’을 국가기념일로 지정했다. 부산시는 이듬해인 2018년부터 매년 관련 행사를 개최해 오고 있다.

올해 기념행사는 1부 기념식과 단편 애니메이션 상영, 2부 추모 공연으로 구성된다. 1부에서는 김준기 감독의 단편 애니메이션 ‘못다한 이야기’가 상영된다. 이 작품은 애니메이션 시리즈 ‘열여섯살이었지’의 후속편으로, 일본군 위안소 운영에 관여했던 일본인의 양심고백 육성 인터뷰를 바탕으로 제작됐다.

2부에서는 음악극 ‘봉선화’가 무대에 오른다. 일제강점기 가곡과 뮤지컬 곡을 중심으로 구성되며, 시 낭송과 퍼포먼스 등 다양한 추모 공연이 함께 진행될 예정이다.

이와 함께 행사장 로비에서는 기념전시와 포토존, ‘기림의 말 남기기’ 등 시민이 직접 참여할 수 있는 부대행사도 마련된다. 모든 프로그램은 무료로 운영되며, 시민 누구나 자유롭게 참여할 수 있다.

한편, 현재 일본군 위안부 피해 생존자는 전국에 6명 남아 있으며, 부산에는 2020년 8월 이후 생존 피해자가 없는 상태다.

Busan Metropolitan City announced that it will hold the "2025 Memorial Day for Victims of Japanese Military Sexual Slavery" at 2 p.m. on August 14 at the Small Theater of the Busan Citizens' Hall.

This event aims to remember the victims of Japanese military sexual slavery and reflect on the lessons of history. It is hosted by Busan City and organized by the Busan Women's Association Council, with approximately 200 participants expected, including citizens and officials from related organizations.

The South Korean government designated August 14 as a national memorial day in December 2017 to honor the day in 1991 when the late Kim Hak-sun publicly testified for the first time about her experience as a victim of Japanese military sexual slavery. Since 2018, Busan has held annual commemorative events in observance of this day.

This year's event consists of two parts: a memorial ceremony and a tribute performance.

In Part 1, the short animated film "The Untold Story" directed by Kim Joon-ki will be screened. This film is a sequel to the animation series "I Was Sixteen" and is based on an audio interview with a Japanese individual who confessed to involvement in the operation of military brothels during wartime.

Part 2 will feature a musical performance titled "Bongseonhwa (Garden Balsam)". The performance includes songs from the Japanese colonial era and musical numbers, along with poetry readings and other tribute performances.

Additionally, the venue lobby will host various side events that encourage citizen participation, such as a memorial exhibition, a photo zone, and a “Message of Remembrance” activity. All programs are free and open to the public.

As of now, there are only six surviving victims of Japanese military sexual slavery in South Korea, and there have been no surviving victims residing in Busan since August 2020.
